Update for all those concerned about the whole Ritek 2x fiasco:
The A05 AS OF NOW has no patch to get it to ''like' the Ritex 2x media... looks like the only people who get the 2x are either those who get the A04 drive shipped with pre-1.32 firmware, or even those with post-1.31 firmware if they use the 'forced upgrade' available form everyone's favorite firmware site. Us DVR-105 users are out in the cold for now..

And as for the 2x/4x thing, I am going to talk to them about the rebate and see if I can't get them to credit me now for the mail in rebate.

Well, I tried to use DVD X Copy with this drive, kept getting errors with the media that came with the drive (DVD-RW) and some Imation media (DVD-R). I haven't hacked up the box for the rebate yet so I may return mine and go with a burner that I can be less worried about media with. Any recommedations before I spend an extra $75 on a drive (I'm tired of waiting for prices to drop) as far as media for this thing goes?

As far as media goes for this thing, the A04 has the widest support of any drive I have heard.... I have also heard about problem with Imation's media quality. I think its the media. And maybe update the firmware as one last go. For the A05, things may be slightly differnent. You can easily get Riteks for under $1.20 each, and you can get some other cheaper brands such as Princo for down to $.50 each.. I prefer something in the middle, I'm eyeing some Leada... somethings.

Prncos wrote fine in a friend's A04, just reading them in a DVD drive was the problem.

I placed my order on Sunday and it was OPN with scheduled deliver of 3/11 up until this morning. Now it's PIP (being processed from distribution center) and now I have now idea when to expect it. The anticipation is killing me!

Thanks for the info CheetahMk2. I did some more research and it looks like this model likes the Riteks a lot, I'll have to research my stores and order myself a spindle. As far as retail goes no one seems to have problems with Maxell so I'm going to run and buy some today just to test the drive some more.

I couldnt get Officemax to give me the 219 price so I guess I will get lucky and buy the LiteOn in a couple of weeks for about $150. Pioneer can shove their lousy firmware up their booty. In 6 months the Pioneers will be In here forsale/trade forums for $50.00. All I can say is that Pioneer had their lousy day in sun and it is setting very fast.

I have been living in Poghkeepsie ( in Spackenskill) for about 3 years. I am originally from the Bronx so I am not as familar with the area as someone who has lived there their whole life. I take that back. My wife has lived in Fishkill her whole life and is still not familar with the area

Chicago, and when I ordered I was alerted that it would be shipping from OfficeMax's Colorado warehouse.

Just got my 4x Cendyne today from Denver via UPS. 219.99 + tax. Called OM and had them adjust the price to reflect the sale. $120 + tax when it's all said and done!

I didn't get an email so I called OfficeMax and spoke with a csr for an update. She told me that my order was shipped today from Colorado and that I should receive it 3/17 even though my invoice said delivery should be today:|. Oh well, maybe I'll get a 4x like some others reported

So they were down with adjusting for the instant rebate, even though you'd used a coupon? Is there a best way to go about asking for such an adjustment? I mean, it always seems like they'd be resistant to selling the drives at what seem to be below cost..

Would someone please re-list how to get these rebates and the 4x drive....That would be appreciated. I read the earlier post but am now confused as to whether it will get me the 2.4x or the 4x drive.... 8-P

Picked the drive up from the B&M yesterday.... trying to record to the included DVD-RW media. Any reason why it only lets me record at 1x, even though the drive is of the 4x -R, 2x -RW variety? Or is the included media just that shitty?

No I just called although I did anticipate the coupon being mentioned. It wasn't. Guy was cool.

How did you guys get the cd's for $34.99. I ordered yesterday and read my invoice today. It says "Price shown includes instant rebate", and the price is $39.99. I went back and checked the web site and that is what it says. Are you sure they invoiced at $34.99?

www.shop4tech.com has a good deal on Ritek media. The 25 pack has gone up $3.00 since I ordered yesterday. $37.99 now.

This deal is alive, but you can only get it at the B&M stores. You cannot use the $ off $ coupon. I bought one at the B&M stores and it was a 4x instead of the 2x. I've already started backing up DVD movies.
