Signed up, we shall see. The site said a further review is required, probably because I am a current chase holder, and they just gave me $150 earlier in the week for signing up for a checking account, heh.

Ok, I bit. I really don't use a Credit Card unless it works out significantly cheaper, and in this case it looks like it certainly will for at least the first $500 in purchases.

In high school one of my teachers taught us to never buy on credit what you couldn't afford to pay for. The only exclusions he suggested were if you needed to make the purchase in order to get / keep your income. IE: new clothes for a new job or interview, car repairs to be able to get to work, etc...

It's always worked for me, and I never carry a balance. Lately, I rarely ever use C/C's. I looked at the gas prices today and see the C/C price is about $0.10 more then cash. So, if I get %5 cash back on gas purchases with gas at nearly $4 a gallon, I'd save almost $0.20 and it'd cost me $0.10 more a gallon, still a net savings of around 10 cents a gallon for the quarters that gas purchases get %5 discounts.

Thanks again OP! Something tells me that I'll be getting a 7970 instead of the 7870 I was planning on!

It's not a bad card to have overall. I just looked and i have $137 cash back (i don't even use that card that much) and apparently it has 5 percent cash back from jan 1 to march 31 on amazon.com (very nice) and most stations (possibly all).

I also just got the card, and called to activate. At the same time, I asked about this promo and the girl confirmed I will get $300 back if I spend $500 in the first 3 months (or was it, 90 days, one of those)

Same here, however I didn't have to ask, she reminded me of the promo as she was going through the rest of her introduction to the card. She even mentioned another 0% balance transfer promo going on, but I didn't take advantage of it.

Someone mentioned Amazon gift cards, if you "buy" them will you get both the value towards the $500 AND the 5% discount?

So say you buy a $500 card, do you pay $475, or do you get $525 in value?

If so, you could pay $500, get $525 in cards, plus the $300 in cashback?

Can anyone confirm this? I'd potentially be interested in using amazon in another country with the certificate.

If not I'll have to order directly from amazon.com instead of from another locale using a certificate.

I bit.

So now I have 92 days from when I signed up to charge my $500. Then 4-6 weeks until I receive my 30k point reward.

They have an additional 5% cash back on amazon and gas purchases but you have to activate it yourself every quarter from their website.

<strike>Now to purchase a 7970</strike>

Looks like the 580 has a higher ranking on PassMark so I will probably go with that instead.

In my account there was related amazon promotion that you could turn in your points at 90% value for an gift card card in denominations of 25 or more.

i.e. 25.00 Amazon GC uses 2250 points.

I just looked at my account and the sale is until 4-12-12

Sale ends 4/1/12 and is exclusively for Chase Freedom® cardmembers.

edit:

My guess is that if you bought a 500 amazon GC under this promotion, you would get 5% back in points too.

So pay 500 and you will get an additional 2500 in points on the Chase card in addition to your 30,000 points.

If you did this quick enough, you could turn your 32,500 points into an addition 350.00+ in amazon GCs before the 4-12-12 promotion expires

If I am not mistaken, it appears that those gift cards can only be purchased with existing Ultimate Rewards points. So you could spend your 500 on whatever, get your 30k points in 4-6 weeks then spend those on one of the gift card offers mentioned.

That's what I meant.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Decided to keep this one and cancel my other chase card which doesn't give 5% cashback on gas/amazon. The APR is 17.99% so i also lowered my credit line to $1000.00 and setup chase alerts anytime a purchase over $20.00 is posted to my account so i know right away.

Now what do spend the $500.00 on...

Hmmm. I didn't know you had insight to my finances but I'll elaborate for you.

Chase Freedom: $300
Chase Freedom Amazon cash back @ 5% for $560: $28
Bank of America Credit Card cash back: $135
*Never payed attention to my credit card and noticing I was racking up cash so it was a pleasant surprise.

$300 + $28 + $135 = $463

$560 - $463 = $97

WOW, I guess my original statement still stands doesn't it? Learn to read between the lines before you go and make assumptions. It makes something out of me and you, but mostly you.

That's funny.

Read between the lines AND still don't make assumptions? You do realize that the former means you have to make assumptions right? Granted his remark was a snide one, but your original post was open for various interpretations, and his comment about your calculation being off was the most obvious...

Did anyone else get a letter to send a copy of your ss# and address?

When I applied for an AmEx they wanted a letter from my bank confirming my address. Apparently I didn't have enough of a history where I was living at the time.

It's weird that they would ask for your SS #, though. Didn't you have to give that to them to apply online?

I just applied for both my wife and I. After I get them the first thing I am going to do it buy a $500 giftcard with each from Amazon.

Than I am purchasing the Apple Cinema Display with them.

thats actually a brilliant idea. I got denied the last time these rolled around, and I have a 710 score (I checked in January) SO I am hesitant to try again. Though I do want a new glock...

Just wanted to chime in and say that Chase DOES follow through on these deals. I got an offer in the mail for 40,000 rewards points back after my first purchase on a Chase Ink Mastercard for my business. I signed up, paid my monthly cell bill, and got 40k points in addition to the 5% of my phone bill. Just got a check in the mail last week for $404. Very nice. I have been for the last three years, and will continue to be a loyal Chase card user.
