I didn't. I plugged in the wireless card, set my SSID and WEP settings (note that I'm using 64bit encryption on my WAN and the only options in the Zaurus were 48bit and 128bit. 48bit worked for me).

Myzaurus.com is the official user site. It has a couple tips and tricks, downloads and such.

Zaurus dev forum is a more developer oriented forum (but non-developers seem to hang around and get support there too.

And of course there's Openzaurus, the opensource replacement ROM for the Zaurus. Most people seem to say it's better and I plan to do this as soon as I get a CF card (you need one to flash the ROM).

For software, Zaurus Software Index seems to be the biggest and best best source of (mostly free) software.

I still haven't gotten mine...

I got my wireless netgear card like last thursday too, and I ordered it two days after the pda... seesh...

Now to shop for a good wireless AP... I have no use for a router+AP, but that seems to be the only things that you can find for a good deal, anyone know of any good deals? 802.11g would be great btw I'm gonna upgrade one of my other computers that is currently using powerline connectivity (which sucks in my house since my wiring was made before they thought of shielding the freaking wires in conduit it seems)...

FYI, we've been looking for a hot deal on Wireless Access Points for a while now since we already had a router that we love and it seems that setting up a wirelss router behind a normal router has some problems. We've found that wireless routers are actually cheaper than WAPs. We ended up just replacing our Linksys router with a SMC Barricade wireless router.

My point being that you'll probably find better deals on wireless routers than access points.

True, but I have a linux firewall/webserver/mailserver/router that I'm behind now, setting up a router behind it is rather silly, and a waste of airwaves... I'd rather have more control over what the clients can do from the linux machine then having the router have everyone connect through it with a single ip... I guess I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet on this one for now....

FYI, this is the response I got from USPS to my complaint about their pitiful tracking system:

Your Delivery Confirmation number will tell you when the item is mailed and when it is delivered at the destination, but does not provide tracking while the item is in transit. Enroute scans, if they appear, are provided as an added benefit.

SUMMARY
There is no record of that mail item. If it was mailed recently, it may not yet be tracked. Please try again later.

how is that telling me it was shipped, when I know it was, it must have seeing how it's been 5 business days since HSN said they shipped it...

Just buy the router with access point and use it as a switch. Turn off the DHCP server. If you have another router, use the uplink port and put it in the wireless routers 1st port. Its really easy...

Careful, they might go postal on you.

The entire USPS system is one big bad attitude. I don't speak to them unless it's absolutely necessary. If I say hi to my mail carrier, all I get is a dirty look in return. They really need to hold some PR training or something.

So any wireless router (as long as it also has ethernet ports) can be configured to act as just an access point.

If it has a built-in switch, then I'm almost certain. You can also use the wireless device as a router if you wanted to, but it would be a seperate network and communication to other networks would be a little fuzzy.

The way I have my network setup is My cable modem is connected to my Linksys router. Then the router's uplink port is connected to my Netgear Wirelsss Router's 1st Ethernet port. Now the Netgear is acting as a switch with an Access Point...

Is it normal to see the Hardware Icon under Windows XP? Before I take it out of the cradle, I Stop the hardware then it tells me to safely remove the device. I know during install, I forgot to make it search for the driver from the CD, so I don't know if it found something on my HD or not. I can live with it, but if you guys don't see it, then I'll explore reinstalling it...

If you're talking about the taskbar icon that has a little green arrow that you can right click to do a "Safely remove hardware" then yes it's normal. You don't actually need to use that icon either. Just remove and insert into the cradle as you wish.

Ok, a little confused... the quick start guide says the battery should be charged for 24hrs the first time around, but the operational manual and start-up guide both say 30hrs. So which one is it? Also, did anyone figure out for sure if you can use it within the first 24hrs if you leave the AC adapter connection on? After about 2.25 hrs, my Li-Ion battery is fully charged and the yellow LED went off... so now I'm guessing the backup battery is charging...? There seems to be no indication that it is, though...

Edit: (03/25/03 - 12:16pm)
One more question, are those "support" stickers for the CF cards really necessary?

got mine today!!

not bad looking, but personally like the sony style better.

plays pretty much every thing, from mp3 to divx (need software).

with a 1GB microdrive, you can play a whole movie with that thing

figgy--The backup is only used to hold your data safe when the main battery dies. And yes, it does take around 24 hours to charge. I personally just plugged it in as soon as I got it into the AC power and started playing with it (and it continued charging). Just leave it overnight in the cradle and it'll be all done.

The support stickers, as they explain in the manual itself, are for the CompactFlash cards that don't 'stick out' at the top enough for you to pull them out. I personally I've never seen one that was short but I guess they do exist. Most of the time, you won't need the sticker.

Thanks! Now, I'm gonna burn the rest of my day playing with the thing, instead of studying/working...
