Thanks. Looks like I might bite the bullet. The keyboard seems to be the deciding factor since I'd like to browse the web and not have to use an onscreen keyboard. I think eBates might work as well, for another 3%...

I know, I said I don't want to use an onscreen keyboard

I have a thumbboard for my Clie, I'm sure its probably the same size...

I just called HSN and confirmed that it's a SL-5500, not a SL-5600. I ordered one anyway, I still think it's a good deal.

From what a I understand, the 400mhz processor in the 5600 will probably be slower then the 200mhz strongarm in the 5500... Just extended battery life sure would be nice...

'BARtMAN' - What is the Battery mod?

I ordered one, and I intend to use it with 802.11b, so battery mods are in!

I think what I was thinking of was an alternative power source mod, one to charge from your keyboard port, but it requires a cuecat, those are hard to get now... better off just buying another battery and keeping it handy, and only turning the backlight for the LCD all the way up when you really need it (ie direct sunlight)

Man, that was the thing from Radio Shack wasn't it?! I actually passed up some of those for free figuring it would just sit along with my other odd hardware bits.

This all from what I've read myself. Hardware wise, I think they're similar, except that the iPaq has only an SD slot while the Zaurus has both an SD/MMC and CF slot, as well as a CPU difference (Zaurus: Intel StrongArm 206mhz, iPaq: Intel XScale 200mhz). Software wise, the Zaurus is running Linux (with a Windows-y like KDE) while the iPaq has WinCE. The actual speeds, as far as I've read, are similar and not noticeably different. I kind of like the thought of being a non-Microsoft slave. Sure, I'll use Microsoft products when I have to, and sometimes because its better (or more likely, the best alternative). Though, the Zaurus seems kinda plug-and-playish and it has the multimedia power and software backing of independent developers; of course, it takes more work to find all the cool stuff for the Zaurus. For a computer geek like myself, nothing could be cooler! Ask yourself if you're willing to play around with the Zaurus a little bit or crave the mainstream, "sports-car" sexy, as one reviewer put it, of the iPaq. Actually, I think the Zaurus is SO cool that it is sexy! But that's for you to decide. Either way, you won't find an iPaq at this price (at least I, won't)

My iPAQ and my e740 both have AC adapters that plug directly into the unit to charge. You can also run them directly from the AC so that's no problem.

I don't think it's worth the trouble to try to get apps for this PDA unless Linux PDAs gain more popularity in the future. It's a lot easier to get things done with a Windows-based PDA right now.
