Only other hard drive listed in the advertisement appears to be of the USB2.0/Firewire external variety (120GB) for $119.99 AR. Does not mean of course that larger drives are not on sale - just that they are not mentioned in the advertisement.

Thanks OP. I looked for 2 weeks for a cheaper Seagate drive and settled for 120GB last week (rebate mailed)....now 160GB deals everywhere...sigh!!!

Actually, you have it backwards. The current in-store Fry's deal is $10 cheaper.. $99.99 - $50 rebate = $49.99 for this drive.

Note the warranty length on this deal.
It really is only 1 year.
I bought one at CrapUSA after being assured by the customer service person that all Seagate drives now have a 5 year warranty.
Put in the serial number at Seagate, the drive I bought only has 8 months left on it's warranty.
POS is going back tomorrow.

Uhh, doesn't matter... Seagate says that all drives purchased after the announcement have the 5 year warranty. It may not say so in their system yet, but your receipt is all you need...

Seagate's the only way to go anymore.

How do you know this?
I ask since I would like to get in on this deal, but I haven't found any sign that these are 5 year warranty.
Their warranty FAQ states that all drives shipped from Seagate after June 1, 2004 have the 5 year warranty.
The date on the drive I bought was May 16th, so according to their FAQ it only has the 1 year (well 8.5 months) warranty.

Well this certainly is messy.
According to Seagate, after two call to them.
Put in the serial number and model number on their site and what it spits out is the truth.
Your purchase date has nothing to do with whether you get the 5 year warranty.
If it was shipped from Seagate after June 1, 2004 it has a 5 year warranty and their website will reflect that, before June 1, and you get whatever warranty the box says.
