1. What products will now carry a 5-year warranty?
All internal hard drives designed for PC?s, notebook and enterprise systems that are shipped through Seagate?s Authorized Distribution and Retail Channels.
2. To whom does the 5-year warranty apply?
The 5-year warranty applies to all customers who purchase drives either directly through Seagate (distributors), or through the Authorized Distribution channel. This includes Channel SIs, System Builders, Retail customers, and Bare drive customers who purchase through Distributors. There will be no changes to our OEM/System Manufacturer agreements that purchase product directly from Seagate.
3. What products are excluded from the new 5-year warranty?
The only products that are excluded are our retail external hard drives (external retail products, pocket drives, portable & compact flash drives). They are treated much more like a storage appliance and are used in very different operating
environments. We have a competitive one-year warranty on external drives in the Americas, and a two-year warranty in the EMEA countries.
4. Does the 5-year warranty apply to internal Retail Kit purchased after the new warranty date, even if the printed box indicates only a 3-year warranty?
Yes, if purchased after July 26, 2004 the internal products will have the 5-year warranty. Packaging reflecting the new warranty will soon be on Retail shelves. If Retail customers have questions about the warranty on their internal Retail products, the can access their warranty information at www.seagate.com.
5. Does the 5-year warranty apply to products purchased just last week?
The warranty is retroactive to all eligible drives that were purchased from Seagate after July 26, 2004.
6. What warranty period will apply to products ordered today but shipped after the new warranty date?
5 Years.
7 . Will hard drives with high capacity, SATA, or larger cache continue to offer a longer warranty than other drives?
No, all PS drives will have a 5 year warranty.
