Hi all,

So I have a Vintage V2-M2A690G barebone system. Or so I believed. It was purchased 2007 and the BIOS version was 0503. Reason I say I believe is that when I tried downloaded v2-M2A690G BIOS (0801) and tried to upgrade with it with built in EZ flash, it told me it doesn't match the hardware. It also told me the default BIOS in the system was for M2A-VM motherboard. So I went off and downloaded latest BIOS for the motherboard and used the EZ flash to flash it. This time it did it. But afterwards the system become unuseable. It would still boot and all but it's dreadfully slow, like a 386.

The box was then shutdown and left overnight. Today when I tried to start it, it simply keeps resetting itself without even displaying the video BIOS screen!!!!

As you can see, any suggestion is welcomed at this stage.

I would remove the motherboard battery for a few seconds to reset the bios. Your bios is ok; may need some tweaking, but I wouldn't reflash it.

* Lots of posts regarding bios failed flashes .

Google is your friend .

Is your bios chip removable ? If so there are

several net sites that will reflash your chip with

any bios file you choose .

If not , then you have to search the net for

the best solution for your particular mobo ...

If you have a pci video card you may try using that to get some kind of display to see what is going on, AGP/pcie will not work for this though if the bios is bad, only pci.
No beeps means it isn't even getting to the post routine, that is bad. Try re-inserting the memory and removing any cards . If it still doesn't post then the only thing you can do is swap out the bios chip.

I'm guessing what happened is that it was using the code from the old bios until you shutdown, then it tried to boot from the new bios which appears to be corrupted.

I've done some googling but none of the result I found really helped. Yes there are tools to reflash the BIOS outside of the actual PC. But it's going to cost.. might as well bite the bullete and get a new one... Some solution involvs knowing somebody who has exactly the same mobo....

What's a bit weird is that the new BIOS did boot the PC aprox. 10 times before I went to bed. It loaded OS and all that, just a bit slow. I was doing a bit tweaking with it but you'd imagine it wouldn't kill it. If it still boots, I do have the original CD that has the original BIOS BIN file to revert back to. But .......

I'll see if I can find a PCI video card anyway. I had one for ages before I dumped it due to lack of use. And now....

I would try a google search on the BIOS bin filename and see what motherboard it leads you to.
