DDR333(PC2700) or DDR266(PC2100)?

This is a 266 fsb system.

2100=266
2700=333
3200=400

Nope. MS shut down the Lindows site that tried to get people to apply for the MS vouchers through them. Lindows 4.5 OEM is only $9.99 at Fry's with the purchase of "qualifying" hardware.

These systems are made by ECS. I bought an older Athlon version last year ($99 BF deal) and they're definitely worth it. I'm going to wait for black friday again. Last year they had hundreds of systems that lasted at least 4 hours.

The system is a 266 system as they sell it with the 1800+ Athlon, but the board will take CPU's with 333 FSB including the Sempron. The board is an ECS 741GX-M Micro ATX. The specs are here: 741GX-M

The installed memory is only 128 MB but it is PC2700 according to Sandra 2004.

Also the included HD is a Western Digital 7200 RPM with 2 MB cache. Model# WDC-WD400BB

Maybe when we get our Fry's in Indy, since there will be another close to yours, it'll help you get the good deals? I'm hoping, because then ours would have them too! I can't wait until it comes in - it's walking-distance from where I live!

I wish that this would sell out because I am so tempted to buy it, but I really don't need it...

Memory Support:
Two DIMM slots for 168-pin SDRAM memory modules
Support for 200/266 MHz memory bus
Maximum installed memory is 2 x 1GB = 2.0GB

So no accepting 184pin DDR eh?

XP 2500+ $70
120 GB 7200rpm HD $40
256MB PC3200 $40
nForce2+IGP (MX 400 integrated GPU) mobo $60 (rec: Biostar MN7CD 400)
case $40 (rec: Superflower TT-101)
CD-RW/DVD $30
Linux $0
Keyboard+Mouse $20
-------------------
Total $300

This will run at 2.2GHz (3200+) out of the box, and will have comparable performance to current systems.

Or, get fry's Sempron 2400+mobo for $50 and a nice entry level video card for $40. You could save even more if you get for fry's deals on hardisks ($30 for 180GB this weekend), CD drives (free AR), and kbd/mouse ($10), and get a cheap case for $30, so final price would be $200.

So for a little more, you get much much more.

???? But they are screwing you on components, this is strictly very low end. If you build it yourself, it may cost a little more, but you can choose much better components, and end up with a machine 2-3 times as fast for a little more (especially if you use components from other fry's deals)

True..

For $250 ish you could build a , in some way much nicer PC.

for $99 its a good price, but $179 is pushing it.

Lindows. I don't know about that.

I might just have to fork out another $80 for XP Home.

I'm thinking about buying this computer for my 10 yr old nephew.
It'll handle most things just fine.
I have an xp1800+ running Win2k Server and it's as fast as fast can be.
When I was in the market a few years ago, the xp1800+ was considered the minimum for a decent htpc.

Judging by the gamers here on AT, it's not good enough to play the top-of-the-line graphics games at highest detail -- but it should play most anything, just maybe not at the highest settings.
