Dead connection until reboot

I've been having this issue for about a month or so, what happens is my connection will all of a sudden just die (usually while browsing) and the only remedy is to reboot. I usually have to do this about two or three times a day. I have noticed that it tends to die out faster if I'm doing bandwidth killer type tasks like downloading torrents.

I'm connected to a small linksys hub that is connected to a linksys WRT54G (not on wireless). I'm curious if it's the hub since I haven't used it in a long time but when I was temporarily hooked up using wireless I never had this issue.

I've done the usual, scanned for viruses, spyware, updated my drivers for the router, checked the settings, etc. but still have this problem. Also I have 3 other machines hooked up here that never experience this.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate because this has become very annoying.

Are the 3 other machines hooked up thru the hub or are they plugged straight into the router? If the only thing that fixes your connection failing is a reboot are you getting a "network connection lost" message or something to that effect? When the connection stops can you still ping internal addresses?

The 3 other machines are hooked up straight to the router, I'm the only machine hooked up to the hub. When the connection does go dead no I don't get "network connection lost" message. To get that I would actually have to do something obvious like unlpug either the hub or the router or my direct line. What happens is web pages will stop loading, e-mail will not connect to the mail server, basically anything that needs to go online during that point will be a no go.

I haven't tried to ping the internal addresses when this happens so I'll give that a go next time since it always happens a few times a day.

Well it just crapped out again and I tried to ping my address and it reported 0% loss but I was still unable to make any connections until i rebooted.

Try unpowering your hub when this happens and then turn it back on. If this solves it then it probably is your hub or try going straight to the router.

I tried unplugging the hub a couple times after the downtime to see if that would save me the reboot but it didn't. At the moment I can't plug directly into the router which is why I have the hub. I'm at a loss as to why this has been happening.
