Here's the procedure for downloading multiple pictures from the 3725 to your hard drive direct from Vivitar technical support. This procedure should work with compact flash card readers as well. YMMV

Plug the camera in.
Open MY COMPUTER.
Open REMOVABLE DISK.
Your pictures will be in two folders down, in the removable disk folder.
Right Click on the folder that has your pictures stored in.
Select Copy
Close all windows
Right Click on your Desktop and select Paste
That just copied all your pics to your computer.
Now turn off the camera and your pics will still be there.

Now try getting the pics from COMPUTER in Photosuite lll
and it will bring or a browser of your computer, find your folder that is on
your desktop.

I know the battery topic was covered. but I was wondering if there is such a thing as Rechargeable Lithium ION AA batteries like the NiMh ones...

Sorry, Li-Ion batteries are available in sealed packs only with included charger. There is a regulation prohibiting manufacturers from selling individual cells to end-users due to cell instability (possible explosion) when overcharged/overdischarged .

Each Li-Ion battery pack has it's own smart charger that monitors the cell(s) condition and disconnects the cells if battery is overcharged/undercharged/overloaded/overheated. This is one of the reasons those packs are so expensive...

Owners of the Vivitar 3725, I need advise on transferring images from the camera to the computer.

I have been using ArcSoft PhotoImpression for downloading images on my other usb cameras. I was hoping that I could use it for the Viv. 3725. However, when I select the "Acquire" button, the Viv. 3725 is not listed as a camera to select from. I am using Windows XP Pro. You are not supposed to need a driver in XP Pro for the Viv. 3725, but I decided to load it anyway to see if it made a difference. Nope, Arcsoft still does not see it.

I tried different software (MGI Photosuite 4, Adobe Photoshop 6, Adobe Photoshop Elements). None of these programs deteted the Vivitar.

I am aware the the Viv. owners manual says to go the "My Computer", find the newly created "removable disc".......blah, blah, blah. Yes, all the above programs can find the images after alot of browsing and opening up the correct folders, but what a pain! Isn't there a way for the camera to be recognized by the software, then simply select the camera, and click "Get photos" ????

plus another 100 examples, did you just make that up?
Excuse me? 100 examples of what? If you're talking about hmmmm linky, then read carefully: 1 Lithium-Ion Battery, 3.7 Volt. This is not your average 1.25 V AA rechargeable battery.

Well, if you manage to find AA Li-Ion battery that drops-in to replace alkalines--let me know, I'll eat my hat right away

(Hint: Li-Ions have different chemistry, different voltage, different charging sequence. If they ever release individual cells to end-users (s'pose they can change regulations), they will definitely come up with a new form-factor, so the average Joe Doe will not be able to plug them in to NiMH charger).

Edit: from Sanyo web page-- "* The battery incorporates built-in safety devices. To ensure their proper function safety, do not disassemble or alter any parts of the battery." and " 2. To ensure safety, the battery incorporates built-in safety devices. Do not use it in a location where static electricity is greater than what the manufacturer guarantees. Otherwise, the safety devices may be damaged, causing the battery to generate heat, burst or ignite.".

Ok, now I need to find the link to that stupid reg...

my bad, re-reading your original post, i see you were answering a question relating to AA batteries, I though you were trying to say all Li-ion batteries were that way (ie Cell phone batts etc), which would be wrong .

italics confuse me

I don't know about XP or about whether software recognizes the vivitar camara since I use a reader(saves on battery power by the way. they can be had for $10), but there is software that hooks into the "open dialog" and puts a little icon in the titlebar that when clicked, presents you with a list of favorite or last used folders. I've seen several versions of this idea, shareware/commercial/and freeware. I'm using the version that came with powerdesk 4. I saw a freeware one posted on Shell Extention City not too long ago. Their advantage is for just such situations you described...in any software that uses the standard open dialog. (some write their own)

found this review: http://www.zdnet.fr/prod/cgi-bin/a_prod.pl?ID=20683

it's in French, and when translated (by Babel Fish Translations) says this: (both funny and informative read)

The case of good size of ViviCam 3725, far from dimensions Lilliputians of some of its competitors, hides a camera numerical trimégapixel. It offers an excellent catch in hand, the bulge of the housing of the piles improving gripping of the apparatus. In the same order of idea, the fingers naturally find their place for the control of the zoom (the same button is used for navigation in the menus) and of release. The aiming is carried out with the choice in the reflector view finder or on screen LCD. This one remains relatively readable in outsides (recess + adjustment of the luminosity), but suffers from an insufficient frequency of cooling. So aiming LCD of subjects moving will be unpleasant even impossible.

The apparatus has a sensor of 3,34 mégapixels, delivering images of a resolution going of 640 X 480 to 2 048 X 1 536 pixels, to the maximum. To this choice of resolution that of the level of compression is added: Tiff not compressed and three levels of compression JPEG. This sensor is been useful by an optics autofocus zoom 4x, equivalent with one 35-140 in 35 mm (silver traditional).

The quality of the images is of a good level, with one made precise of the details, an exposure not burning too the strongly exposed zones and a correct colorimetric balance, these qualities being found during an exposure to the flash. The transfer of the images is carried out by port USB (superfluous installation of the pilot under Windows XP), the video exit authorizing the direct visionnage on the television set. To the catch of standard sight, other useful modes are added: macro (in fact of the brought closer photograph, from 16 to 60 cm), programs result (portrait, landscape, photograph of night, texts), audio recording and/or video (in 304 X 240 pixels) and retarder.

On the other hand, ViviCam 3725 is not a Formula 1 of the photograph. It takes him 6 seconds to be initialized and 7 seconds of treatment between each image taken beyond the capacities of the mode " gust " (2 to 4 images in high resolution at a rate of a image/seconde approximately). As for the treatment of a photograph in tiff, it requires 40 to 50 seconds! It also suffers from a problem of autonomy. In mode tiff with maximum resolution, the memory board Compact Flash delivered of 16 Mo makes it possible to record one stereotype, this capacity being able to reach 7-9 with difficulty images, in JPEG slightly compressed. It will thus be necessary to acquire of a memory board dimensioned better to have a reasonable autonomy. This autonomy is also taken at fault side food. Thus a set of four alkaline piles AA did not hold more than 30 minutes, screen LCD in function. There still, the acquisition complementary to refillable accumulators AA (1 600 to 1 800 mAh) is essential not to be ruined out of piles.

About the batteries:

Unclebud and For those of you who bought the Energizer 8 pack of AA with Charger from Sam's Club, there is a $10 Energizer Rebate available. I found the coupon at K-Mart and it doesn't expire until 12/31/03. I sent it in a 8weeks ago with my Sam's Club receipt and recieved the check two weeks ago.

The coupon has a $10 and $15 rebate on it with pictures of the ACCU series NIMH charger and battery on it. I think it said $10 off any NIMH charger. Or $15 off any battery purhcase. I am not real sure. I saw this rebate posted here by someone else months ago, so whoever that person is I give them all the credit and my thanks. Just thought I would pass the info along.

My cost $19.99-$10= $9.99 for the batteries

Thanks much

The form actually says $10 rebate on Energizer Nimh charger and/or $5 rebate on 2 packs of Energizer Nimh batteries.

edit: well somebody didn't say ONLY this or ONLY that TYPE of lithium ion batteries, somebody generalized
why didn't one just tell dude that there aren't any li-ion batts in aa sizes (if that's what somebody REALLY meant)? i didn't tell him because i'm not sure of ANYTHING.
and what IS that confused icon? i can never remember it
anyway, the rebate with the batts--they have so many versions, i may just buy one (haven't yet) from sam's and send it in and see what happens. it's still the cheapest price right now for b @ m

Carmann, you were right. I just looked at a copy of the coupon, but you can combine them to save up to $15 (ie. purchasing two battery packs and a charger) I was wondering why I didn't send it in for $15.

Ok that's all for now.

Does ANYONE know how/where to get the Dimage viewer (it comes with the Minolta s304 - sister camara)??

The pictures from the 3725 look ok on the camara, but are definitely washed out when you get them to the computer. I don't know what the best settings would be in photoediting software to make the adjustment to standards, so the program that saved it to the normal standard would sure be handy.

Someone earlier said it was mentioned in the thread here where to get it, but I haven't found it!

BTW,

As far as batteries go, you can get the little plug that fits into the camara at Radio-shack for a couple dollars. That way you can use ANY 6 volt battery you have or make your own 6v pack for the camara. I'm using the 6v rechargeable battery that came with my bike light (4Ah), but it'd be cool to put together a pack using 8 of the new 1800mah batteries...3.6Ah, NiMH!!!
(you can buy the MAHA "powerpack" but they want $50 for a measly 1800mah...the same as 4 of their 1800mah AA's which cost $15)

CAunt are you trying to say you can charge batteries in the camera?

edit: i see, you are saying make your own battery pack, to then plug into the camera through the 6V jack, gotcha .

like the Milolta ebp-100 a lithium ion battery pack, for $250

like this

No, you can't charge batteries in the camara (there is no circuitry in the camara to direct power from the external pack to the batteries inside), but there's a DC input port just below the Compact flash door. My point was that You can run the camara with a little (or big) external pack of batteries made from any combination of batteries you have on hand(or purchased)...you just have to combine them such that the output is 6v. If you like a light camara for shooting, you can leave out the internal batteries altogether! The 4 batteries in the camara are laid out end to end by the circuitry so that the voltage of each of the 1.5v AA's is added together, making a total of 6v. For a different appliance you could put those same 4 batteries so that their power was added together making one 1.5v output that was 4 times as powerful as one AA...

Go read up on Ham radio operators licenses. That will teach you a lot and most books/sites offering that kind of instruction can do it much better than I.
