dark blue

seems to have pretty good reviews...though a bit outdated and compared with the ipod mini (not the nano)

but it's a cheap 5 gig mp3 player

review (cnet)

the sku is 4289194

I am unable to get a clear direct link....or am afraid that it might contain referral id's. Just search for the SKU at
outpost.com

Great price..I love my player! It has excellent sound and great volume. The touchpad isn't as responsive as I'd like it to be though. The sensitivity doesn't seem to help either. Anyone else have touch pad problems with it?

Very hot! Thanks mrokk for forcing me to buy something I did not need.
(*)#%_)* dang ATHD held to my burning creditcards made me do this.)

PS $9 ship was a little steep IMHO.

How good are hard drive mp3 players for jogging or running on a treadmill? Do they skip a lot or does the hard drive crap out due to the movement?

yep lzpoof, I realized that db prolly meant dark blue but I was too lazy.... too early in the morn u know

RideFree, you are welcome. I myself jumped on the deal...having held out on buying an mp3 player for 3 years now :-/

all other ones are 179.99... this is the only colour at 139.99
shipping was around 6.55 for me to IN (ground)... and tax was 9 bucks (bleh..)
total was around 155$ for me... still a good deal I thought....
it also allows for ppl to use subscription services like yahoo.....
it's audio quality is excellent... supposed to be better than the ipods too!!
battery life's better too (~12 hours)
removable battery.
Only problem is the inability to use as an external drive directly. (You can still partition a part of the disk and use it as an external disk but then the micro cannot play any songs off of that partition.)

You should be able to use windows xp explorer to transfer songs to it directly (as it is recognized as an audio device)...
or you have the creative software etc.

also, no dedicated volume control.

Some ppl have had problems with the headphone jack. Others have had problems with the touchpad.

(condensed from a bunch of online reviews that I read)

I don't get it, why does everyone go around complaining about the touchpad. It takes a bit to get used to it, but once you are, it's insanely fast to get anywhere. And the select button being on the scroll makes it so much easier than with the ipod. Granted, a circular scroll is probably best, if you have to move your thumb off it to select anything, it's kind of contradictory. I haven?t had any skipping problems with it while running or anything. I'd just recommend getting an armband for it; the plastic holder that comes with it is good for walking, but it tends to fall off your belt if you run.

I?m not sure if this one comes with the holder/case thing though, I know it was originally marketed as a limited time thing.

Also, am I missing something, because everyone says it doesn't have dedicated volume control, but nor does the ipod. It's a rather pitiful excuse to chose one thing over another about.

I wouldn't.

My Zen HD crashed. Not an uncommon occurance. Creative charged $25 for an under warranty repair. On the plus side they sent another battery, headphones and USB cable.

Great player. Removeable battery and can be used like a USB drive as well.

Never used either before but I would have to agree even if my experience is limited to one day.
Sure, there are nits I could pick but they are mostly my getting used to the Zen, not it getting used to me.
Another comment about the lack of a volume wheel control. I'd rather have it be a menu-driven electronic control like it is instead of a foible mechanical pot.

PS thanks again mrokkam for turning up this deal. I already love it!
