Crucial 512GB M4 2.5" SATA III 2.5" SSD for $339.99 / $324.99 AC

http://www.buy.com/prod/crucial-m4-5...221150377.html

$15 off $250 with new customer coupon

http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=85634947&&

$339.99 - $15 = $324.99

5% from Shop Discover = $308.74 and $15 new customer coupon (so damn tempting)

I keep telling myself that I don't need this...I don't need to spend the money (kid going to college next year)....I don't need this....I don't need to spend the money....but it's so hard to resist.

Keep waiting and maybe next week it'll be under $300? These things are dropping fast for some reason.

FARK! Got in on the previous $353 deal with the data transfer kit that I don't really need.

Hmmm... maybe I'll just BUY ANOTHER ONE! Then I can stop looking at SSD deals for a couple years.

It is but its still alot of money for most people to throw out on a hard drive.

My first hard drive (1988) was a 20 MB (yes, megabyte) Seagate 4 to 1 interleave MFM (took 4 spins to read one track) drive that cost $379.99.

Puts this in perspective!

Great Price! I'd buy one, but I already have 4 Crucial M4 256's. Just need some time to set up these bad boys in raid 0.

If you're a tax-dodger, Amazon's price is down to $350 w/prime now.

Buy would likely still come out cheaper, but I figured it couldn't hurt to share that these sales seem to be driving the prices down. Definitely makes the 512 for $300 by Black Friday more realistic each week.

True, but you can't compare Crucial to OCZ, OCZ is more a trash pickup knowing the drive will fail. :\

Yet another wild generalization no doubt based on limited empirical experience. OCZ's SSD business would have died long ago from the overwhelming wall of customer outrage and negative press if their failure rate was just 1/10th as bad as you make it sound.

With that said, I would try to avoid Mushkin SSDs like lyme diseased ticks.

Anyone noticed a much higher 1-egg review ratio on 512GB model vs lower size models? I wonder if 512GB model is more likely to be problematic...

Unscientifically, I'd bet that people were expecting flawless performance and reliability for the heftier price tag on these drives (up until about a month ago), so that the cash invested causes folks to be more critical with anything going wrong.

On the other hand, maybe these drives are raid-ed 256gb drives internally and that causes a higher potential failure rate. I can't find anything in the reviews I poked around for to confirm or deny that... I just happen to think it's not true based on something in my memory.

I'm betting that people just want their expensive toys to be perfect and nothing ever is.
