Crucial BX200 240GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT240BX200SSD1

$53.99 w/free shipping Prime

I know these aren't the fastest drives out there, but i've used several of them and they seem fast and snappy to me. My customer's like them.

Can't really go wrong for the price. Thinking of upgrading my parents old mechanical drive with one of these.

I bought one of these for $56.99, a couple of nights ago, from Newegg on ebay. Thought that was a good deal. (Under $60 for a 240GB.)

The next day, they had PNY CS1211 (SMI w/MLC) for $59.99, so I was kicking myself for my prior purchase.

Reviews say that the BX200, in worst-case performance scenarios, are as slow as a HDD. (50-60MB/sec write speeds, slow access times.)

Edit: Newegg has matched Amazon.

hopefully someone can do a follow up review w/ the firmware update. I purchased one of these to improve an old crappy machine that has a HDD. Not gonna complain that it's not the fastest, and I seriously doubt it's as slow as a HDD.

I've used several of them and they are NOT even close to the speed of a mechanical drive. Seems just as fast as any SSD i normally use. Windows 7 rated it 7.9 as well.

Windows booted fast and programs opened very snappy.

No way, I have one of these on an old Q9650 system and my start up time is around 30 seconds it was a huge speed increase from my mechanical drive.

It's just that the once fantastic budget BX line has been neutered to the Kingston V300 level in a race to the bottom of the barrel. Basically a SSD is a SSD but since it posts the kinds of numbers it has, I have lost interest in the BX line. $54 shipped is a good deal for 240GB, I just hope it pressures other models to that area.

We use a lot of these in an enterprise environment, all for desktops of course but they are plenty fast and out of several hundred we have yet to see one fail.

The BX200 specifically or the BX series? The BX100 was generally faster than the BX200 from reviews I've read. Not sure.

I've stuck with the MX series so far, but I've eyed the BX a few times.

Most of the drive makers offer a "budget" line these days, but if the idea of using an SSD is to get the most speed you can out of the drive (and thereby decrease its bottleneck effect), why not pay the premium for a faster drive? It just doesn't make sense to cut corners with such a critical component. Just my $.02.

I like my BX100 256GB. It replaced a Samsung 840 128GB that died on me. The BX100 feels faster from what I can tell but I did go from a Windows 8 to 8.1 install on the same hardware. I doubt I would buy the BX200 though as many seem to be disappointed with its performance.

For a budget laptop even a value SSD can be worthwhile over a stock 5400rpm hdd.

I agree. While most recent SATA6G drives are very fast, I do notice a slight improvement in web browsing with a PCI-E x4 M.2 SSD.
