do you have to go through fat cash for this to work? what if I go through fat wallet

It seems to me that you have to go through an affiliate site. I tried just going to dell.com and it didnt work but then I went through a gottadeal link and it worked.

For you sellers out there, do you sell them right away, or wait a bit and sell after the initial ebay rush?

That one lasted a while compared to the last one. Hope my dad likes the 700m, I'm a little worried that the screen is too small.

You would have made about $80 per system at best. Check eBay completed auctions, minus listing fees, PayPal fees, shipping fees, and then minus about 20% of your profit once the flood of new systems hits.

256 is the bare minimum you can run xp with, especially with all the extra crap dell installs. I don't know why you didn't just go up to 512 when you ordered it, laptop memory isn't that cheap that it's worth hunting around for another 256 dimm instead of the extra $40 up front.

That said, I find that with a clean install I can run nearly anything without a hiccup with 512. Heck, with a good clean install my 1 ghz inspiron 4100 still runs fine on 256.

Anyway, a 256 module runs around 25, and a 512 is about 55 the last time I checked on newegg. you can probably find it for less if you shop around, but for me 512 is fine, and I'll gladly pay 15 more to avoid the hassle.

i didnt do it through dell, cause they wanted like $100 for a total of 512, with 2 256 dims. that is a utter ripoff. i know i can get a 512 chip for total 768 for around $60. so why should i pay dell more for less? I also found a 1 gig chip for about 120, so im trying to deicde if its worth it to get that over the 512, dell wanted like 200 to make it 1 512 chip, it is rediculous, and i know it takes 3 mins to install a chip

If you bought a 700M, you can get 512MB PC2700 SODIMM for $47 at Newegg. Buy a couple and upgrade to 1GB; it's worth it.

What are people doing on this machine that requires more than half a gig of ram? Running 25 instances of IE?

right i am upgrading the ram, but im trying to decide weather to just get one of those 512s from new egg and have 768, or i found a kingston 1 gig at frys outpost for 115. so i might get that gig chip and have 1.25 gig, was curious performance differnece from 768 vs 1.25
i dont really want to change the memory thats under the keyboard and lcd and what not, seems like a huge pain, esp when 768 or 1.25 wihtout touching it would work great.

buy a second 256mb sodimm on fleabay for $15, they come up all the time. I have bought 3 x 256mb sticks recently and the most I paid was $13 shipped - all Hynix an Nanya. 512mb is plenty of RAM for a lappy unless you game/edit video/do CAD work.

I completely agree. 512 is plenty.
Just wondering, anyone know how many RAM slots the 700m has? I assumed the standard 2 for a laptop.

Multitasking? Photoshop? 512MB runs out fast when you're editing a few 7MP photos in Photoshop.

DRAM is dirt cheap nowadays.

it has 2 dims, one easy to get too other, hidden under lcd and keyboard.

i am a college student and may be doing some cad work, but would rather be safe than sorry, so 768 should be plenty then right, and i dont need to mess ith the gig sticks
?

You're planning to edit 7mp photos on a 700m? Dude, you picked the wrong laptop. For me a 19" LCD is barely adequate. Plus, try running a noise reduction filter on a 1.6 gig pentium M. You might as well run out and get some coffee and pick up your dry cleaning before it finishes.
