The 8800GT is faster by about 10% however the Radeon 3870 card runs cooler and uses less wattage.

If your concerned about your power supply then the Radeon 3850/3870 series should be the way to go.

As for the 10% difference I didnt see any games that the 8800GT was necessary to play the game that the 3870 couldnt play as well at the same resolution. Maybe a few newer drivers can close the gap a little more.

Radeon 3850-3870 have DX10.1 support future proofing your purchase for when DX10.1 starts getting used.

There is some lighting enhancements to performance should a game company support DX10.1 over DX10.

Thats the quick rundown. You can got wrong with either card though.

In regards to the bolded text. The Dell click-thru redirects to the Home and Home Office store. From there you navigate to accessories and you can either search or wade through the categories to find the HD 3850 and 3870.

Thought about using my discount for a Vostro laptop, but that's in the Small Business section and I don't think anything there is part of the PayPal promo.

Not if you already have a Q6600@3.0Ghz running on a 975x ASUS P5W it doesn't . I'd probably go for SLI 8800gt if there were an easy way to change chipsets. I do however like the DX10.1 support and lower power requirements.

The scaling of Crossfire is much better than I thought too.

I'll keep you posted. If this is true, I'll have 3 games I can sell to make this deal a bit better. I say three because I intend to at least load up one copy of Juarez if it's in there.
