Well, I got mine today as well... and unfortunately I already requested a return with Dell.

Mine was from the September build and it did have that uneven lighting @ the upper-right corner. Funny thing is, that wasn't what made me return it. The grainy looks was bothersome to me, and I cannot overlook it. The screen has a harsher look to it because of that. Oh well. I'm sticking with my 2141SB till it dies.

So... although I'm still torn (mainly because I already have the damn thing) between returning it and keeping it... what are the other options for reasonably priced 19 or 20" LCDs that support a native resolution of 1600x1200 ???

BTW, after some more tweaking, yes - leaving the factory brightness settings does reduce the screen door effect noticably.. and I've adjusted my viewing distance to about 2 feet away. HOWEVER it really is painfully bright to look at like this .. and as I lower the brightness/contrast, the screen door becomes more obvious. Argh.

BTW2: From 3 feet away, photos etc do look /outstanding/ .... I haven't hooked it up to svideo yet but I imagine this thing would make an awesome TV display. But I don't need a TV display, I need a monitor!

I just got my replacement. Same manu date, Oct. Same number of stuck pixels, 5-6. But instead of a quarter sized bright spot in the corner, I know have a palm-sized one in the lower bottom portion of th screen. :|

I think mine is great. 2 dead pixels (black screen showing white) Doesn't seem to have the back light issue. I do see the grid, which shouldn't be for something this expensive, but it doesn't really bother me. I also love the 1600 by 1200 resolution, but why is their no dell supplied driver for portrait mode? That also shouldn't be .

You guys realize you can adjust the brightness and contrast through your graphics card? On my 9800 pro pc, right click desktop, settings, advanced, colors.

I just got mine in yesterday, October 2003 model. 1 pixel stuck red, about 1/2 inch diagonally from the upper left hand corner. The pixel is no big deal BUT... it also has the white light in the upper right. I'm definitely thinking about asking for a replacement, but I'm gonna wait a few days to sniff out these forums and the Dell forums and see what everyone else is doing. Disappointing what can I say.

Received mine about a week ago...gave it a few days to break in...0 dead/stuck pixels! slight bleeding in the upper left corner (not enough to notice). btw, if your fonts appear grainy/thin, try enabling MS ClearType. Got a Sept. 03 B9D model. Enjoy!

I recieved mine today December 17th.

Zero stuck/dead pixels and no light bleed through problem.

Manufacture date is October 2003.

This lcd has exceeded my expectations in every way!

It replaced a viewsonic 171b lcd on my main gaming machine.

The grainy effect isn't a matter of what's displayed on the screen, it's the way the screen is built. It's inherent to the LCD panel and it will never go away.

I'm still debating it as well as the stuck red sub-pixel. We have 30 days to figure out what to do, so I'm going to give it a while. I still have my 2000FP on standby if I need to go back to it.

Things I like better about the 2001FP

Brightness/contrast is better
The stand is awesome
The ability to rotate the display to plug in cables
The bezel is smaller
USB hub comes in handy

Things I don't like about the 2001FP
Stuck red sub-pixel
Grainy look

Things that are supposed to be better with the 2001FP, but I don't notice
According to the anandtech review, color reproduction is supposed to be more accurate, but I don't notice it
The 16ms response time. My 2000FP was fine, I never had any complaints.

Anyway, I think a lot of the people who are happy with the 2001FP are upgrading from older/lower quality LCDs. People who are upgrading from fairly recent/high quality LCDs (like the 2000FP) are less impressed. This is just my take from reading the posts on this thread. The 2000FP I have had ZERO dead pixels and NO grainy effect. It's a tough trade-off though, see my pros vs. cons above. The brightness, smaller bezel, and awesome monitor stand really make me happy.

Bottom line: The jury is still out!

Cheers,

John

I didn't get in on this deal for $$$ reasons, but my 2000FP (no dead/stuck pixels, no grainy effect or lighting problems that plague the 2001FP, 25ms response time that's not noticeable in games) has been listed in the FS/FT forum for anyone who needs a *guaranteed* monitor. (See my sig for the link...)

I wasn't looking for an LCD - my Nokia 21 inch (19.8 viewable) was serving me well, but since I had priced quality 17 inchers in the $450.00 price range, I jumped on this.

For me this display is a work of art....after some tweaking Q3 (my fav) has never looked or played better. The original grainy appearance I have been able to eliminate, but with much trial and error.

All light out at night, black screen, I do not get the light leakage and no dead/stuck pixels.....or maybe I just don't like to complain.

Quick LCD newbie question:

If it's recommended to run in the native resolution of 1600x1200, what happens when you need to drop it down to 800x600? Reason I ask is that Deus Ex Invisible War barely gets a good framerate at 800x600, and I'm running a Radeon 9700 Pro with a P4 HT 2.8C processor.

it can scale down to that no problems in games will still look great.
In windows when you scale down fonts can get funky

Well as I am waiting for mine to show, A question for those of you who see the grainy image, is this just on the Desktop, or in games/movies as well? I think I'll be able to differentiate between quality pretty well after I get mine, as I am running a Viewsonic VG191B now, and a good comparison test it should be.

They did not question me at all about setting up an exchange on this monitor.

I did enable the True Type and I'm trying to decide if I like it or not. Either way, I love this screen. 1600x1200 is awesome.
