as an owner of this monitor for over a year now (got it during thanksgiving of last year), i must say i am happy with it. i do mostly text stuff (.net, notepad, emacs, etc) and it looks great. i also play sc, cs and wc3 on it without much noticeable ghosting. it also has rca and svideo hookup, so my gc is actually hooked up to it (and as a result actually being played).

that said, it is not the "perfect" monitor by any means if you are a pure gamer. there is ghosting that you can't always tell but is very noticeable when compared to a high quality monitor. for example in wc3, when your units are moving, you can't really make out their detailed movements (swinging of arms and such). i just assumed that was just how it was, but when i saw it on a friend's 21" sony crt, i remember saying "wow those peons look really cool and animated."

also in fps, sometimes you cannot make out the text, especially if you move left/right relatively quickly. i noticed this especially in morrowind and no one lives forever 2 (and now i notice it everywhere, heh).

just think of it this way, i'm sure most of you have played ps2/gc/whatever at your local ebgames or software etc. a lot of those stores now have the little setups with the lcd screen. it looks like that

Has anyone actually tried to remove that gaudy badge on the monitor? I mean, a 2 inch silver badge right in front of myu face is already bothering me and I don't have my monitor yet. I am assuming it is just held on by some glue that could be easily reaffixed if I need to RMA the monitor.

After spending all day thinking about my purchase and coming back to this thread every couple of minutes, I am glad I purchased this monitor. I explained my purchase to my girlfriend and even told her how much it cost and she actually didn't say anything about how expensive it was. I think she is getting used to my spending habits

Now its the hard part waiting for the monitor to ship and arrive. Got an email with a ship date of Dec. 16th. I hope it won't be pushed back any further.

Just wanted to let everyone know of this "adjustment". I ordered two of the 20" Wed morning. I checked out and got an email with the following numbers:
Sub-Total $1,998.00
Discount -$479.52
Shipping $0.00
Estimated Tax $60.74
Total Price $1,579.22

Then I got another email showing:
Sub-Total $1,998.00
Discount -$479.52
Shipping $0.00
Tax $121.48
Total Price $1,639.96

They doubled the tax!!!
Has this happened to anyone else?
I'll call them tomorrow about this.

What's your normal tax rate. If you were in California, the second price would be more accurate.

They do that sometimes...I just ordered 14K worth of server stuff and they sent me a quote of $13921...but after a day I checked the quote and it's up to $14128

I wish they wouldn't lie about the tax...if you're gonna sell online, have the tax table programmed correctly? lol!

Just think of all the $$$ I am going to save on my electric bill by buying this... Not to mention no more heat from the monitor that I use now--Dell 21" CRT!!! You can't imagine how much heat that this CRT adds in the summer!!!!

It's funny how we're all worried about this one getting us in trouble with our significant others. A 20 inch LCD seems so decadent. Last night, I sheepishly told my girlfriend what I was doing up yesterday morning at 3:00 a.m., expecting to get blasted with a lecture about living simply and saving so that someday we don't have to work so hard and all that... and instead heard her say "good! I worry about your eyes with you sitting in front of your computer all day. You NEED a good monitor." The truth is that the only things that really matter long-term in your computer system are your chair and monitor. Everything else will be obsolete in 12 months.


Anyway, for those of you who are watching your order status on Dell's website, the rumors are true that it isn't up to date. I just called Dell SB customer care at 1-877-773-3355, and while the website says the order is "In transit to the shipping facility", the automated phone order status thingy was able to give me a UPS tracking number.

Mine is scheduled to arrive on Monday. Can't wait!

Your girlfriend is very nice, a2k. This monitor is definitely a worthwhile investment for this money. You'll be using it for the next three years, at least. For me, all that remains now is to replace my 24" CRT with the sweet new 23" Sony LCD. Check it...

the online one isnt accurate at all
