You guys know if they charge at time of order? or when it ships???? I need to verify this, as my mom said she'd g'head and order it to give me more time to sell my shyt, But I want to make sure it doesn't charge her today. Especially since I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't see it till 2003....

Nevermind! Found the answer!!

Credit Card
We accept most major credit cards, including VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. We do accept debit cards, but we will need to know the daily limit on charges allowed by your bank to process the order. Purchases are limited to three times your daily limit when paying via debit card. We accept up to two credit cards for a single order inline, but the credit card holder?s address must be the same as the billing address when purchasing products. Importantly, while we will seek to obtain an immediate authorization from your card issuer to reserve funds for your purchase, we will only charge your card once the order has been shipped.

They typically authorize right after you submit, but they don't actually charge until after they ship.

However, if they authorize $800, that means your available credit is reduced by $800 until either

A) the charges comes thru or
B) 30 days or so has elapsed with no charge, then the authorization falls off, and the amount is added to your available credit

As for seeing the charge on the statement, #A above has to happen before it goes on your statement

You are correct. There is an $800 authorization which deducts from your available credit, once the item(s) ship then you are charged the $800. So if you order this today your credit limit will be $800 less.

Damn you! This is a conspiracy I tell ya, just when I thought I knew I wasn't going to order a 2000FP.

Do you or anyone else have actual pics of your 2000FP?

How long before you got a confirmation e-mail and/or the order showed up on your Dell Order Status account page?

IIRC, in Dell Business, there is a restocking fee, besides if you return anything you are paying the shipping charges.

Pothead, this is not true, I have returned products to business division - no restocking fee and no shipping charges

I can get an RMA from Dell Home up until 9PM CST when they close, that's 2 hours 45 minutes away I really should make up my mind really soon.

I'm trying to justify paying 200 dollars extra for the 2000fp over the 1900fp. Is it REALLY that much more worth it? Decisions decisions. Argh! One question, most of you guys are saying the 2000fp looks better than the 1900fp overall but the 1900fp has a contrast ratio of 500:1 and the 2000fp only has a ratio of 350:1? Forgive me, I'm a newbie to LCD monitors.

RossMAN,

Just keep the 1900FP. LCD prices have been going down recently and there are always new deals.
(I decided not to order 2000FP.)

At first I thought the ONLY difference between the 1900FP and 2000FP is the 1" and resolution but it seems the 2000FP offers a lot more than just those two things.

Still waiting for Monty to push me off the fence with a list of features/specs where the 2000FP outshines the 1900FP ... if he can do that I'll call Dell Home and get an RMA faster than you can say Ferengi Fornication.

Does anyone know how long it takes dell to email you an Order Acknowledgement. Its been over an hour still have not recived one. It usually take minutes. Did somone mention the http://www.cadonline.com review dated 4/2002 yet for people who want to know more about the 2000FP.

RossMAN, I really think you should stick with the 1900fp. I mean, the 2000fp really isn't for everyone. I think you'd be more, ah, comfortable with the 1900fp.

Several hours left on this one...but I wasn't even remotely in the market for a new display,
let alone an $800 one (sounds familiar, I'm sure).

The only computers any of us (in my family) have right now are Dell notebooks. 3 Inspirons,
as a matter of fact: 8000 (which is what I use), 8100, and 8200.

Given that this 2000FP should be run (apparently) at its native 1600x1200 to ensure the
highest quality, I don't think using my laptop for gaming with this monitor is an attractive
option. Either I run it at a lower res, and lose some of the benefit of having such a big
display in the first place... or, I leave it at 1600x1200...and that's just not possible with
my machine.

So, gaming is out. But, I wonder if it's worth it to use as a display...I like the increased
screen real estate that higher resolutions provide.

And it will go nicely with some machine that I may buy in the future.

Any comments? Anything I should know about when buying such a display for use with
a laptop?

thanks

By the way: Dell order estimates and order status messages mean absolutely positively nothing.

I order from them all the time. When I ordered my monitor, it was still listed as "Not yet Shipped" the day I received it. So, unfortunately, you just have to sit back and wait. At least it seems like they generally ship it earlier than you expect.

By the way, RossMAN, in case you missed that cadonline review: 5 stars out of 5. And they use the word "stunning" twice.

Just FYI....
