Well I'd pay the extra $150 for SXGA, do you know the real difference between SXGA and just XGA? Is it very noticable? I doubt the HDs are 7200 RPM, maybe if we're lucky 5400RPM, i'm taking a look right now....

You have to bear in mind the 1100 is a CRAPPY ASS slow ancient bottom of the barrel slow entry level laptop (IMHO).

Spend the extra $200 and get a 5100.

Well, so far the specs look pretty good. If I can upgrade the HD and buy my own faster mobile HD, I would just do that. For $515, it's pretty good. Guys, do you think if I wait untill Xmas I'll get a better deal than this? I remember the last time Dell had a laptop at this price it was a mistake.

Rossman, I value your deal saviness, what don't you like about this laptop?

Perhaps the title should also state that this is a celeron P4, and not a normal P4.

Uhh, HELLO? This is a $515 laptop, brand new with a 15 inch screen, CDRW, and DVD! This is a smoking deal!

Duh ... I agree HELLO too .... This is the exact setup I am using except I have the 30 gig drive. List for mine was about $1400 and final cost was over $900. It is a great computer and an absolute steal for that price. If I needed one, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. If anything, get more than 256 megs ram, but that works okay too. I love mine and have checked and rechecked Toshiba, Gateway, IBM, etc and none can come anywhere close to matching this deal. Bekker

You have a good point there, yes this is a GOOD DEAL but it's a low end laptop which is my gripe.

Well, seeing as this laptop is nothing more than a word document/email creator, i guess its ok. But dont expect to use it for anything useful.....

I would take a Compaq/HW packard with an Athlon over this? Would anyone else? I am just wondering? Also, where do you get all the promo codes? I am on Dell's email list, if anyone has an extra let me know!

this inspiron 1100 is better than the presarios. you will not, i repeate, will not, find another laptop for this cheap that offers you better performance than those ATI IGP presarios. The intel xtreme graphics actually perform better than the ATI IGP 320 & 345(or 50). I've used both. If I didn't have a laptop already(Inspiron 8100), I would buy this without thinking twice. Come on now, 515?! Just be sure to add some ram and you're set.

I dont think that intel integrated could beat Radeon 7000 graphics? You really think so? Anyways, I am still looking for the coupons. This isn't a price mistake is it?

When you spend the extra 200, it will not be an entry level laptop any more. There is nothing wrong with this lappy. I had it and was happy with it. And now my 7 years old is using it to surf the net.

Been looking at the Inspiron 1100 for my gf for a while, this is a sweet deal.

Actually placed two orders, 1st one with a 10% off $899 and then a 10% total. Cancelled it in favor of a 15% of $999 and another 10% off total. Wish I had tried the 10% off $899, 15% of $999, and 10% off total together. Wonder if that would have worked...

Is there a way to get this up to 512MB RAM? It would be perfect for me then (of course I'd be willing to pay the extra for the upgrade -- I would just like the choice!).

Thanks!

looks decent,

only problems are that,

1. it's close to $600-650 after tax (small business) and coupon,
2. not to mention u need to find both 15 & 10% coupon or pay for those.
3. and wait 8-12 wks for the $250 rebate.

lol, yes it's a "low end laptop" but it's also $515.

If you or anyone can find one with all theses features for less I am listening. The 5100 is a great deal but it's also 40% more.

I am not saying this is the best laptop around, but it is the cheapest and it has a bunch of great features.
