I just couldn't resist... At least, for me it will be a huge upgrade. My current monitor is a 6 year old 17" Panasonic.
On top of that - I got my wife's blessing

I've got wife approval on this one, she's not thrilled but she said ok. $416 Total with tax. I have a perfectly good 19" Viewsonic PF790 CRT that I love so the 18"FP is not a necessity. I could use the $416 to upgrade my T-Bird 1.4 Ghz, PC 133 system to a Granite Bay chip set MOBO, 2.4 Ghz P4, 512MB of PC2700 DDR ram system. What would you guys go for? Upgrade the PC or a new FP monitor?

Yeah i really want to upgrade to the SN41G2 shuttle XPC and some better memory. That would come out to about what this would, choices choices.

Yeah i should take that back, my girlfriend won't nag me about it, but I may regret it, when she wants to buy something and we don't have the money. Like i said, she won't nag, but that might make me feel bad. But man going from a cheapo 17" CRT thats a few years old, to an 18.1" DVI FP thats good for gaming for under 450.00 is hella sweet.

Damn. I don't like it's native resolution.. otherwise I'd be all over this thing.

Still hoping for a 1600x1200 LCD that's good for gaming for under $500..

Whats wrong with 1280x1024, is the problem that games don't usually run at 1280x1024?

Well i thought some of my games topped out at 1024X768, but maybe thats just cause I never tried to go higher. So then whats wrong witht he resolution of this monitor. I am seriously considering getting and LCD and this seems like an awesome deal. What are the downsides of this monitor if any?

not really any that I see...but you'll want to run your games (along with your desktop resolution) at 1280x1024 with this monitor or you'll loose some quality

By the way i am hearing conflicting opinions, are colors more vibrant on an LCD or a CRT, thats is one of my main concerns. My monitor just sucks when it comes to vibrance.

I have the 1900FP and 1280x1024 is a PERFECT resolution for me.

Oh yeah and Oregon has 0% sales tax, so no matter what I buy, where I buy, 0% sales tax

i would like to get a 1600x1200, that would kick ass.

i dont know why they chose 1280x1024, that isn't even a 4:3 ratio like all of the other defaults (640x480,800x600,1024x768,1600x1200)

i use 1280x960 now and love it, i would love to move to 1600x1200 but the 1800fp will do fine

Depends on what you want to use the system for. If it's gaming that AIW needs upgraded as well but me personally I'd upgraded the PC first. If you love the CRT then LCD's might take a bit of getting used to. Blacks aren't as True no matter what contrast ratio you have due to the inherient design of the LCD and resolution could be a factor for you. I went from a 19" Sony G400 at 1600x1200 to this at 1280x1024 and I was ok with the change. I still miss the space I had at 1600x1200 though. It's all about opinion and you've now got 1 more than you had Hope I helped.

Has anyone considered setting this up with sound? Enzo Nano has a sound attachment for it's monitors and I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas on speakers for this? I hope use it as a TV/monitor and it would go down better at home if I could use it has a screen. I'm hoping to use one of the Viewsonic TV thingys to generate the picture.

Thats another question, how do LCDs compare to CRTs when viewing TV through a TV tuner card?

Blacks aren't as true but other than that it's pretty much the same. The response time has been debated to being 25ms or 30ms. I have one and the manual states 30ms but honestly I've never seen any ghosting on DVD's, TV tuner or High Speed Action games such as Unreal II, UT2003, Racing games such as Nascar 2003, etc...
