does your 4200 have a vga and dvi on it? it'd be interesting if you hooked them both up, one dvi, other vga and compared head to head.

not only did I not get in in this deal yesterday (see my sig, and guess why) but I have to endure the pain of everyone going "oh boy, mine is on a UPS truck!", or "sweeeeet, some factory worked just taped my shipping box!"

Can't wait for the next deal like this..... I am definately going to get in this time (and just face up to the @ss-whooping from the wife... )

I ordered mine this morning and it shipped out today.
Say , I do not have a video card with a DVI output, my card is a Geforce 4 Ti4200 with dual analog outs . I am going to be critically comparing this monitor to my 21" Sony G520P ..how much of
a loss of pic quality should I figure in if I am only using the analog input on the 1800fp?

just get into the fs/ft forums and stick that card up for trade for a 4200 with 1 analog out and 1 dvi out + minimal cash...shouldn't take too long to get an offer

Mine is currentlly in transit to local carrier. Are all of these coming out of texas(thats where dell is located, right?) or do they ship them out of smaller centers closer to the destination. Also what sort of video card does it take to play modern games at 1280x1024 with quality very high? I currently have an AIW 8500DV, and i doubt its got enough guts to do it. I am also running an AMD XP2100+. But i am considering getting rid of the AIW in exchange for either the ledtak TV tuner for sale at newegg or maybe wait on the expert version. And then get a new video card. What would I need to get. Would my best bet be getting one of the Radeon 9500 Pros and then doing the software mod to turn it into a 9700?

Just got mine today.... Ordered on the deal from last Friday.... Don't forget to go to Monitors Direct Toolkit for some help in setting up your monitor...I do have to be happy with the fact that I have no dead pixels or sub-pixels..... Seems to be pretty good for gaming, but just ran C and C Generals on it, nothing as demanding as a FPS..

I have to admit its not as dramatic an improvement over my previous monitor (Mitsubishi 920U) as I expected... I am not sure if its my video card (Elsa Geforce 3, no DVI) or if I am expecting too much... but text just isn't as sharp as I expected.... I know the Geforce series has been weak in the 2D area, but the Elsa was supposed to be one of the better cards... Maybe now its time for a 9800

The ATI 9700 PRO or non PRO won't break a sweat at that resolution neither would the new 9800 PRO..

I got an ATI AIW 9700 pro and all the games I played at the RES ran without issues (selling it, can't wait for the 9800 PRO).

Stick and use the DVI port instead and be amazed with the difference.. Text won't have the highlights anymore..

Well I can play any of the current games out with my Geforce 4 Ti4200 64mb card, I play at
1280x1024 most of the time on my 21" Sony monitor.
I had a Radeon 8500 for well over a year before aquiring the 4200 and I cannot put my games
down, I am very reluctant to go back to ATI again.

Its seems there is a mixed bag of opinions on this, some people say it does not make a big
difference and other say it does.
Man I am going to be extememly disappointed if the text is not razor sharp on this monitor,
perhaps I better run out and buy a DVI card before it comes because I do not want to be
disappointed.
My Sony G520P does not have the text I want although some people consider it to be quite
sharp and it is alot sharper than most CRT monitors....however I am pretty much one
of the pickiest people on earth when it comes to 2D..geometry, text, colors etc etc.

Really the only reason I bought this is for the text so if it sucks in that department then I have
wasted my money.
Does anyone know of a website that shows close up pics of the text on an LCD using Analog and
DVI inputs or can someone here take some high res pics so I can see this blurry text?

You guys that are saying that the 1800FP has sharp text tell me how picky you are...

1. When you go to clean your monitor screen do you turn it off , pull out a flashlight and examine
it from every angle to make sure it is clean, even if you were sitting on the ceiling?

2. Does your heart skip a beat when someone puts a finger on your screen?

3. have you load tested you homes power to make sure it stays at 115v +/- .005V?

4. Do you find it rather entertaining to stare at a geometry screen and other
monitor calibration tools for hours on end?

I am so picky that most people cannot even see the flaws that I see, what might look
perfect to you might look like crap to me.

No flashlight, but I do move my head around to see any smears etc. from all angles.
2. Does your heart skip a beat when someone puts a finger on your screen?
Only because I know I'll have to clean off the mark. But I would never yell at someone for touching it.
3. have you load tested you homes power to make sure it stays at 115v +/- .005V?
Nope, but I sort of wish I had the tools to do it.
4. Do you find it rather entertaining to stare at a geometry screen and other
monitor calibration tools for hours on end?
Hours, hell no
I am so picky that most people cannot even see the flaws that I see, what might look

The important question is, CAN you be satisfied, or will you be dissatisfied with every monitor?

If you want the absolute best, I'm guessing the Samsung 191T / Dell 1900FP are the state of the art at around this size right now. Of course the 192T will be coming out in a bit, but dont expect that to be under $800-$1200. The most important things for sharp text are DVI and contrast ratio.. contrast ratio is where you might have a problem with the 1800FP. I havent gotten mine either, so we'll see how it goes.

I already have a 15" Gateway FPD1520 LCD, which has no DVI, and yet simply because of the nature of LCDs (flat and no projection) text appears as sharp as I can imagine it getting. I mean, its 1 pixel wide... so I'm guessing that the 1800FP certainly cant be any worse with DVI.

Thanks!

That is wierd how Dell has shipped these out so fast. I was one of the last people to order it and mine shipped
just a few hours after I placed the order, that is a first for me. I think 2 days after an order was the fastest before this.

Dell must have had an overstock on these or something and they just marked them down for a few days to
lighten the load some. Even now the 1800fp says "ships same day" so they must still have a bunch.
I would love to know how many they sold over the 1.5 days that deal was on for.

I have no problem with the fast shipping -- except that I don't have any ship information yet! Mine has said "in transit to local carrier" since about 2:00pm on Thursday. Doh. Maybe it will just show up on Monday and I'll be happy. Yeah, that'd be nice.
