I have absolutely ZERO faith in UPS when it comes to shipping expensive items like these things.

I say that because they (UPS) have damaged numerous packages and each one of them turned out to be an act of God to be reimbursed from damages.

Taoofbean raises a good point regarding how lame the Dell website is. If you use a single browser and switch between Dell Home and Dell Small Business, whatever you put in the second site's shopping cart automatically modifies the cart you may have created at the first site. If you open several windows using the one browser, and then go back to an earlier window that you had viewed BEFORE you switched to the other store, you may well be looking at a webpage that is no longer accurate.

Confused? Let me paint this scenario:

1. Put a monitor in your cart in Dell Home, get a great price.

2. Open a window in Dell Small Business, put the same monitor in a cart to check the price, get a lousy price.

3. Switch to the window showing the shopping cart for Dell Home, and order.

What did you buy? If you would have refreshed the screen in #3, you would have discovered that you were about to buy the monitor with the lousy price from Dell Small Business. The screen does not automatically update. (I think the discrepancy is not just in the store involved, but potentially also in the items ordered)

Here's where it gets really flakey:

If, having placed the order, you try to get it straightened out, you might try calling a Dell Home CSR. That CSR will state that no order has been placed with Dell Home, so he/she can't help you. Then you might call a Dell Small Business CSR, who states that he/she cannot switch the order to Dell Home, or adjust the price (in my case it was applying a coupon from the other site), because the two stores are separate divisions who have no operational connection with each other. Try as you may to complain that the websites act like they are two sides of the same coin, the CSRs will uniformly say that there is nothing they can do. Then they tell you that there is nothing to do because it is Dell policy, and nobody seems to understand that maybe somebody at Dell should get the programmers to correct some fundamental defect in how the websites interact so that customers' carts aren't affected by actions taken in the other store's website. I love Dell, I really do. It makes the frustration I feel at work seem no minimal!

Ordered 1/23/03 11:42 p.m. Got a tracking number, shipped via UPS and expect it wednesday, Jan 29th. Paid w/ Dell Preferred Account. My first LCD monitor.

I ordered mine around 10PM last night, I got a tracking number by calling Dell. They shipped it via UPS, doh, but the UPS site still says the tracking number does not exist. I suppose I just need to wait a bit... or is there some sort of a work around to find out where the thing is exactly?

Mine shipped UPS. I searched ups by order number. UPS better not play football with my package. Superbowl weekend :frown:

Hrm, I tried searching by order number via the track by reference number function, still no luck, says it cant be found. Any suggestions?

It can take up to 24 hours or more after you get a tracking number for it to appear on the UPS website. So don't start worrying yet

Since this is my first LCD. Got couple question.
Checked the spec sheet on this monitor; with analog connection the max is 1280x 1024@75hz refresh rate and with dvi its 1280x1024@60hz. Not sure how LCD compare to CRT with refresh rate. Looks kind of low to me.

Also what is better? Analog or dvi connection since mY radeon 8500 support both.

DVi displays a clearer and crisper image, especially is the digital to analog converter is cheap like they use in most nvidia cards.

LCDs do not flicker so the refresh rates do not matter a whole lot.

Actually, the refresh rates do not matter at all if you're using DVI because the pixels on LCDs are always on. They don't "refresh" as CRTs do.

DVI signal is digital -- it doesn't degrade at all, and if it does, you get noise! Of course, you won't get noise though.
Analog is analog, the signal will pick up noise and interference as it's going to the monitor.

Anyways, DVI is clear and crisp. Analog has ghosting, blurred images, etc.

So has any of you tested this in FPS games like Counter Strike or UT2003? I have a 17" LCD right now and I have no idea what the response time is but there's definitely a little ghosting while playing CS. So if any of you have actual experience using this monitor with CS using DVI or Analog I'd like to hear. If there's still a little ghosting involved I'm just going to keep my 17" and get used to it Thanks!

i got a dell 171fp a while ago and that has a 25ms response time, and i did not experience any ghosting, and the 1800fp has the same response time, so i imagine it should be great for gaming!

both of my 1800fp should arrive by thursday! (can't wait for that!!!!) anyone wanna buy a dell 171fp?

Are you connected via DVI or Analog interface when you say you didn't experience any ghosting? And which game were you playing to test? Any other opinions on this? I'd rather not open up the LCD and find out it has ghosting issues (even minor), and sell it instead while it's new in box. Thanks for any inputs.

just got mine and hooked it up via DVI. excellent monitor. counter strike looks awesome. no ghosting at all.
warranty i can't find anywhere, will call dell tomorrow.
