OMFG the customer service reps at Dell are morons. This is what happened:
I ordered two systems: one for myself and one for my college-bound sister. Sister calls and says she wants a laptop instead. I order the laptop using the 10% off coupon on Sunday.
Monday I call Dell, try to get a customer service representative so I can cancel my sister's desktop. After wading through several "choose # to speak to X" messages, I get "this number is no longer in service." Fine. I hang up and send an email to the address listed in my confirmation email.
Although it was only like, I dunno, 1 p.m. PST when I sent the email, I didn't get a response until this morning. This is what I received in reply:
"Hello,
I am sorry This order shipped before we received this email.
In order to Arrange for a return and a credit you will need to Contact Customer Service
Please Phone #(800)901-3355 ext 68938
Thank You"
Now, forget for a moment that this message looks like it was written by someone who is five years old. I go online to check my shipping status, and of the three systems I ordered over the weekend, only the one I tried to cancel has shipped! Suspicious? No...
Now I have to deal with the pain of trying to get my family to refuse the right package, since they have two (or possibly four, with the free printers I chose) coming their way. ARGH...
