For Vista, what drivers did you use? I saw that Dell has 530 drivers for Vista and Foxconn has drivers for their G33m02 mobo, used by Dell. Which to use? Any problems?

I would like to get this machine with an E7200 to move up from my old P4 and add a good video card later, but I'm using Vista that I want to stay with.

edit: the stock power supply it comes with has no pci-e power connector, if you were to get a 530 with a q6600, then it would come with a 375w power supply with a pci-e power connector.

My co-worker and I both ordered one with Q6600 with Vista and the PS had no PCI-E connectors. It's all SATA I believe. You can fit a regular ATX PS into it but there's not much room inside if you have a lot of cables. My Ultra Xfinity 650W PS is sitting outside because it has way too much cables to be able to fit snuggly. Sigh. And all I want is to put my 8800GTS card in the system to use but not PCI-E connector

Considering that you said 375W PS, it might indeed have a PCI-E connector. Ours are 300W PS I believe.

Edit: Oh, and the case and DVD are cheap. I mean material wise and build. But if you're not lugging it around it's good. If it's for kids, the DVD will most likely be the first device to go because it's very flimsly.

The upgrade to the Q6600 is now $160, so no change if ordered with a Q6600.

This is true about the G33, but you can't compare a DELL OEM G33 motheboard tp the cheapest G33 i could find $85.00, as the DELL has basically no BIOS what so ever.

not to mention most retail parts will have longer than the 1 year Dell warranty.

I really compare value not exact price.

and the limitations of a Dell OEM system mean less value to me, Dell does have a few benefits, but I would much rather have a retail parts with BIOS options, and overclocking, and longer warranty in most instances.

If you just need A basic PC for work this might be a good option, but all the people who say they are going to add a video card and upgrade the PSU and add ram and upgrade the CPU just doesn't make any sense.

You would end up with a lot of parts laying around with little to no value.

tbogstad, like you said, there are advantages as well as disadvantages. I'm sure everyone knows of them, and takes them into consideration.

You'd be surprised how many people want or need a basic, non-enthusiast, box. The thread view count should be an indicator at that.

Yeah, same here. Used to build them all the time. But these days, I use an XPS 410 as my personal desktop (work and play), and have an E521 running as an HTPC.

yes runs perfect. Windows experience level is 5.5. 2 more gigs of ram should help more. I'm running vista ultimate 32 bit..
