If company's like Dell want to tap into the enormous opportunities (Cu$tomer$ like U + ME) that exist on the WWW then they need to conduct business in a responsible manner and be held accountable when one of their employees makes a "mistake". If you were to go to an auto dealership or an appliance store etc.. and make a deal for merchandise then got home and received a phone call from the store/dealer stating that your order was cancelled because of an employee mistake and you could purchase the item at a new price, you would go ballistic and label the salespeople and the company thieves!

Dell is an experienced E-taler, and consistently post super deals and renig on them or correct them after people like us submit our orders with very valuable, marketable personal information. This information can be sold, used for Dell's marketing purposes or God forbid used by maliscious theives looking to steal identities.

I think this was a "Bait and Switch" tactic perpetrated by Dell for the sole purpose of collecting valuable, qualified sales leads which can be sold to other marketing outlets or most likely used by Dell themselves to market products for the upcoming holiday season. You have to admit it's an ingenious, very cost effective way of of gathering qualified leads.

A) Those who ordered one of these for personal use and not for profit should call Dell and demand they honor the deal, if they do not we need to spread the word bout their deceptive practices and hit them where it counts.

B) We also need to monitor their mail advertising carefully to see if those who created profiles today while attempting to make this purchase receive any marketing materials from Dell in the future (Assuming they never have in the past because they were not Dell customers until today).

C) We should contact our State Attorney Generals Office and see if we can get Dell to honor the deal or at least file a complaint.

Peace Out!!

Geez. You really want to sue Dell for not being able to rip the company off? Dell is responsible? Maybe. But shouldn't we give internet vendors some protection? Let's say I operate an e-business selling huge diamonds. I made a mistake by typing 10,000 instead of 100,000 (which obviously is an error). People then flock to my site and bought tons of these items. Then I need to honor all deals losing loads of money just because of the extra zero I typed? It has nothing to do with how experienced Dell is either. No matter how experienced you are, you still make mistakes.

Give Dell a break. $139 for a computer like that is obviously an error. This price-error incident probably cost them some money already and/or some people their jobs.

Yes, I am also a greedy bastard because I ordered one, but I will not complain if they do not honor it.

So it shipped tomorrow? So Dell can still yank your computer from being shipped. Heh I see it super unlikely they will honor any of these.

I'm not upset that they are human and make mistakes, lord knows I make plenty, I am upset at that fact that this is not an isolated incident. I feel this was at best a deliberate effort to gather sales leads for re-sale or at least to cultivate a field of qualified leads to market Dell products or at worst an opportunity to swap customers to a more expensive system after attracting them to the website with a super low price offer.

If Dell wants to capitalize on the WWW market and reap all the obvious benefit$ then they must absorb risks as well and be held accountable for employee errors and/or bait and switch scams like this. I find it all to convenient that this happened just in time for the holiday shopping season. They just accumulated 100's if not 1000's of qualified (Valid names, addresses, phone #'s and credit card info) leads ripe for the selling.

We should demand they fulfill their obligation or we should vote with our feet (mouse) and do business with more reputable vendors until they smarten up. Loss of revenue is the only way they will change their tactics.

Email your news, get the word out dont let this be an isolated thing. What does this say to people doing business online? Sure if you are a small business mistakes happen, but they are a large corporation, they set the standard.

I do not want to sue Dell! I don't think anyone has been truly harmed as a result of this so far, personally I don't need it, I bought it because it was to good to pass up. I intended on giving it to my kids.

You would not make that diamond mistake twice now would you?
Upon realization of the typo you would probably apologize profusely and offer to make it up to all the legitimate customers who inquired about your diamond. You probably would not sell their names to other marketing agencies or inundate them with marketing materials.

Hey, I didn't write it My guess is that their system assumes that once it's packaged it'll be shipped the next day. I'll remain skeptical until I see a tracking number.

You said dell has had mistakes like this before and you feel like they're trying to glean and sell personal information. If thats the case why would you order from them on such an obvious mistake?

You're either a conspiracy theorist who for some reason doesn't avoid what you take to be a deceptive company or someone trying to justify being upset about not being able to take advantage of someone else's mistake.

I just don't honestly see how any sane person couldn't see it was a mistake and if they think its an elaborate ruse to gather marketing info why that sane person would try to buy it anyway.
