If I was a developer at Dell I would write a script that kept track of people who abused the system (like ordering multiple systems everytime a hot deal occurs) and randomly log them off, remove stuff from their cart, random mind tricks, etc

I ordered one only. I remember when Dell had a price mistake on some Altec speakers. I ordered ten and got none. Those smarter than me ordered one and got theirs.

His cc only has an AUTHORIZATION/HOLD, not a charge unless his system has shipped already which I highly highly doubt.

Normally it takes 2-3 business days fon an authorization to hard post.

I just got two order confirmations...

Be careful, there is a difference between an authorization and a charge. The authorization just makes sure that you have the funds available - the charge is where you are actually BILLED for an item. As far as getting canceled, oh well. If it goes through, I'll be one happy camper. I got my WD hard drive yesterday.

Inregards to those being gready and not getting none...I hope i wasn't too greedy ordering two (on seperate orders, cuz I whized through first time without even thinking about upgrading to a 9800...even though i am in the market for one, so i bought another with it, and give the other to my dad.)

Do we always have to go through this? They did NOT charge your credit card. They are authorizing the charge to make sure you have the funds. You are not charged until the order ships.

Ordered around 9:30AM in Seattle. Just got the confirmation e-mail and it lists the $100 rebate as part of the package. Had to wait about 90 minutes for the confirmation. Amazing deal if it comes through.

I called DELL and they told me that this was a scam, and that they would not be honoring any of the supposed deals on the 4600 that was posted above. The rep said Dell was aware of this and that someone had broken into their system and had created the false web pages.

I don't buy that part of what he said. I think someone on Dell's part just screwed up their own web pages. It wouldn't be the first time a web page at Dell changed mysteriously at some point.

I challenged the Dell rep that if this deal was bogus, then the deals that Dell had offered in mid September for the 400sc's must have been bogus too, since it was impossible to even buy a 3.2ghz processor at the price the 400sc's were going for. He acknowledged that Dell had made a mistake there too but decided to honor it.

He wanted to know if I found this information either at techbargains or anandtech? Apparently, Dell watches both of these sites pretty closely. That's probably the reason the deal got shut down so quickly by Dell and so abruptly.

What would be awesome is if they honored one system for each person. That would lower their loss by a lot, keep most everyone happy, and stick it to the ebay predators.
