Good luck. Just to explain the "case" to an attorney, you would have to pay them about as much as the computer would have cost you. Let me know how it turns out, big fella.

I went to the site. I thought that it was a very good deal. I thought that only a very large company could afford to do this and I thought that it was probably part of a business tactic to underprice competitors to gain market dominance. There are many companies that have used such a tactic to gain a foothold. Eventually competitors go out of business and then they control a particular market, in this case small business. It is not for us to decide the wisdom of such policies. It has worked for Microsoft in the past; everyone says they lose money on every xbox sold in order to gain a strong foothold in the games market.

My point is this. Yes it seemed like an insane deal to you and I but who knows how much Dell pay Intel for each CPU? Who knows what Dell's profit margin is. It is not our responsibilty to do their work for them. This was not a simple mistake like the Office Depot scanner that was priced at 19.92 instead of 199.28.

Whether it was a mistake or not is irrelevant. There are laws and they exist for a reason. I was one of the people that was lured to the site with the promise of a great deal. I was one of the people that entered all of my private information including address, phone number, credit card information and statistics about my small business and I am one of the people that will be damned I will have the rug pulled out from under me after they collected all that information and told that I can have the same product I ordered but I must pay a higher price. It is a done deal in my mind.

Sure have. It isn't free, my friend, even filing a claim (in Florida) costs you anywhere from $40 to $80 for a case of $100 up to $2500. If you lose, no doubt Dell would charge you their attorney fees. Seems like shooting yourself in the foot, to me.

Inevitably, these threads always roll around to what is "good business" and what is not. The problem is everybody on these forums is automatically a legal scholar when it comes to pricing schemes and the ever-used ad nauseum "bait-and-switch."

It's pretty simple. It was a pricing error. Dell apologized. That's good enough for me: while it would have been nice to get the computer for $150 or so, I didn't - big deal. We all know deals roll around this forum like specks of dust float around your room, so there will be other deals that Dell will honor - so just shut up and wait until the next deal rolls around.

I'm sorry that I ever posted this thread.

If you didn't somone else would have, this spread over the internet like a virus. So we didnt get a deal, a few people (we dont know for sure though) did. Life goes on....

Lots of opinions flying around as to who is right or wrong here.
The facts remain, that :
1. Dell confirmed orders.
2. The system that Dell used to replace the first deal, was nowhere near the same system.
3. If it was a mistake, than all orders should be cancelled. Not just certain ones.
4. Dell never actually apoligized. They said we made a mistake, and it's your tough luck.
5. Dell has sold other systems recently for near that same price, which were very comparable to the one that they cancelled. Were those mistakes as well? They were never cancelled.

A little uniformity, and a true apoligy would go a long ways...

Why is it that the people complaining and saying they are going to sue have < 50 posts?

Why is it that some people with > 50 posts have an attitude about the noobs?

Not to say I favour the lawsuit, though I am pissed at Dell for not having the decency to send me a letter of apology. BUT there will be other deals, and I will be there begging bowl in hand!

Nowhere in my post is there an attitude towards noobs. I was merely stating an observation.

It is inevitable that there will be more dell deals and everyone complaining will be there with credit card # in hand.

I'm beginning to think the $273 AR Dell PowerEdge 400SC/P4 2.4GHz HT/128MB DDR400/40GB deal was better overall. At least I received those 2 systems today.

pxc: Why do you think that? This one is only $139 after rebate and it also incl:

1. operating system
2. office 2003 basic
3. 256mb 400
4. fx5200--for $15 extra
5................

6. dell cancelled 99.999% of the orders.

LOL. Because virtually no one is getting the $139 AR deal. $273 + tax for what's basically a stripped down Dimension 8300 is an awesome deal.

The parts alone are worth at least $450, probably more.

Woah, WinXP shows that I have a Radeon 9800 Pro in it! I did select the Radeon 9800 upgrade, but wasn't expecting that. The RAM on the card appears to be 3.3 ns.

I ordered one with the ATI 9800 video card and my order was cancelled. WTF is that? As you can see people, there is something very fishy in all this. This guy got it but I didn't. That's not FAIR! (Damn I feel like a 8 year old kid)

As the ancient saying goes: Life ain't fair. Get over it and move on. Be happy if someone was lucky enough to actually get this incredible pricing mistake.

Oops, my mistake. I didn't realize the ATI drivers showed the standard cards as pro. I guess the 3.3ns RAM would be fast enough to overclock or update the BIOS for 9800 Pro, but I don't think I need to worry about that for the time being (especially since the 4600 comes with a 250W PSU).
