Not too bad of a price if you ask me. Double your hard drive to 80GB for $10 more. You'll need to take off the $30 they're charging you for a floppy drive to get the price of $249. This is a great price plus it's free shipping too. Mine came out to $267 including NC taxes.

great deal for a low budget system, file server, render farm, etc. I was wondering the same thing about PCIe on these. $259 + tax with the 80gb drive. none of the other upgrades are worth it.

Graphics cards use a PCIe X16 slot and this server doesn't have one. Someone here did mod the connector to fit a video card into the PCIe X8 slot. Sounds risky to me, but it might work.

yup, sounds like he cut out a part of the divider on that slot. Since the whole PC is only $250 what do you have to lose if you try it? Just take a Dremel and go for it. I, on the other hand, am a cheap bastard and the Celery and integrated video is fine for me

It's almost worth buying the machine to have a modded PCIe slot

We got one with a P4 2.8 GHz, 800 FSB & only 128 MB RAM for $348 shipped. Swapped out the RAM for a 512 MB stick and haven't looked back. A VERY quiet machine--wish I had another.

I did some searching at support.dell.com. It appears that the 1600 and 1750 are extremely loud. The posts over there make the things sound so loud that putting them in another room isn't good enough!

The 400SC was almost silent.

Would be hotter if it came with a faster xeon cpu. How old is the 2.4ghz 533mhz now? Upgrade to the 3.06Ghz 533mhz is $199, kinda blows the deal.
