On the 19" vs. the 20.1" --

I find the 1600 X 1200 native resolution on the 20.1" to be uncomfortably small.

1600 X 1200 means 2000 diagonal pixels; 2000/20.1 means 99.5 pixels per diag. inch.

1280 X 1024 means 1639 diagonal pixels; 1629/19 means 86.3 pixels per diag. inch.

So, the pixels are 99.5/86.3 = 1.15 times larger on the 1905FP.

I've always been a CRT user, but prices like these make you think about an LCD.

Thanks for sharing that with us, motodude.

This post notwithstanding, I could no longer resist. Considered the L90D but pulled the trigger on the Dell and can't wait to get it!

I've had a nice 19" CRT for years and years, but I decided to jump on this.
I've been looking at the Dell 1905Fp and the Polyview V293. I'll try the Dell first.

Can someone tell me if the Dell comes with a DVI cable?

I guess judging by response time along doesn't seem to be an accurate way to measure it's quality.

I have Dell 1800FP with 35ms response time and se NO GHOSTING whatsoever. You are right, response time isn't everything

YMMV, but I was originally told mine would ship friday, but got an email just now that they shipped this morning, so you might get lucky.

If anyone else wants in one this you've got about 40 minutes left!

I assume you're referring to the L90D+ when you said that "the overall construction of the unit seemed a little flimsy" to you. Am I right?

1905FP still sitting in cart. What to do, what to do.............

isn't 1905 resolution only 1280x1024 ? what's the point of bigger screen if its resolution is the same as smaller lcd you can get for much cheaper ? maybe you enjoy looking at gigantic pixels, but I don't

Just ordered mine, been looking to replace this tire old Dell P991 19" and by all reviews this is the best 19" LCD for under $800... To get it for $317 is a steal!! You;d pay $399 for a refurib and $499 in a system upgrade.. Just can't believe a brand new 1905fp for this price woud take years... never seen it lower.. poor suckers are spending much more on ebay for used and recond. 1901fps.. hope they ship it by the weekend.. next up dell 8400 dimension at the outlet store when a good coupon pops up.. Thanks for the heads up on this deal guys!!!!

its resolution is no better then most 17" LCDs and some 15" !!! so the only "advantage" of the 19" size is the horriblly huge dot pitch. Really I can't understand why whould anyone want to buy this piece of...thing

Bigger is better.

I've had both 17 & 19 (DVIs) in an "L" shaped cubicle and failed to notice hardly any objective or subjective differences.
Maybe it's because I wasn't looking for the difference(s), just working on some ol' office apps.

17 or 19, both are perfect for workstation use, but then, I've yet to play even SOL on an LCD. (Going to correct that right now.)

I had a 15" lcd(not sure of the resolution) and now I have the 1905fp. I'm looking at my 1905fp and I'm sure that even if the 15" had 1200x1024 also this still blows the 15" out of the water.

And what are you looking at?

Well the advantage is that everything is larger. So this helps if you wish to sit further back from your screen (while watching a movie for example) or if you've got bad eyesight.

I'd prefer a 17" myself because of desk space, but I can see how a 19" could be beneficial in some situations.

Deal is dead now anyway, so it doesn't really matter but...

The comments about the resolution making graphics look blocky ("UT look like pong") is just ludicrous. the human eye is completely incapable if isolating an individual pixel below 43dpi. Both 17 and 19" LCD monitors operate above 70, so it just isn't an issue.

The argument that you're paying for screen size more then actual resolution holds much more weight. If you're on a budget, then 17" might suit you fine. For me it's worth a few extra bucks to be able to see clearly from a normal distance back from the screen. I have used 17" LCDs and find the text to be a little small for my tastes. That's why I actually prefere this monitor to the 2005fp model, which has 1600x1200. To me that screen resolution is just tiny. Also keep in mind that the price gap isn't really what you're making it out to be. The $150 17" LCDs you get at staples are NOT in the same league as this monitor. A good 17" LCD with adjustable stand, DVI input, 8bit pixel depth and a quality backlight will set you back at least $250. So the difference is ~$75. Worth the money to me, but again JMO.

Anyway, deal is over. enjoy your new toys everyone!!!

Bing bing!!! We have a winner!!!

19" - 1280 x 1024 is the sweet spot for LCD's in my opinion. 17's and 20's have VERY small text size which requires you to sit with your face quite close to the screen when reading.

I had a 17" but hated how close I had to sit to the monitor. The 19 was MUCH nicer - again, my opinion.

Does anyone know where Dell builds their LCDs? I live in Nashville and I know we have one of their production facilities here but have no idea if they build LCDs.

Also, how long did your monitor sit in the 'In Transit to Local Carrier' shipping category?
