Dell Order Has Been Confirmed

I wonder if getting your confirmation has something to do with the fact that you ordered only one system? It seems that everyone who ordered multiple systems hasn't gotten their confirmation yet. Corect me if I'm wrong...............

I ordered with no media package installed and the 7900gs of corse not the 7950gx2 both of which seem to have had issuse from dell reported.I took a continueing education class last fall at my local community college and have a fresh ID that apears to have a exp of 2008 as well - claimed my self as a student with all my info - may have helped as well.?
I have heard that the media center installed package is not conpatible with the x64 says some from dell and is messing up there orders along with of course the 7950gx2 problem
I have heard rumurs of first of multiple orders going through and the remaining of multiples are not. Some how looks as if dell is going to try to limit one per customer - so reported.?
Edit: when I say installed media package I am refering to

Dell Digital Entertainment
Starter Entertainment Pack -Basic digital Music, Photo, and Casual Gaming [Included in Price]
I chose
No preinstalled software add $0
:I have read some have been told this software is not compatible with x64 and needs to be changed with in there order.

When did you have to claim yourself as a student? I know your supposed to be one to go through EPP but when I ordered I was never prompted for any sort of info regarding my status as a student. Maybe this has something to do with your order going through and mine not?

i ordered with 7950gx2 on monday shortly before it was taken off as an option and still no confirmation. i ordered only one system
i saw on SD that many of these 7950 orders are cancelled because dell says "x64 XP is incompatible with 7950gx2" and may either try to cancel your order or try to ask you to "upgrade" to the 7900GTX for another 300 dollars

so heres an email that i got... WTF>???

Dear Customer:

Thank you for your online order.
We are contacting you regarding your recent Dell EPP Online Order which is on hold at this moment.

Our records indicate that you have submitted an order with an illegal configuration due to an incompatibility issue between the "1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card and the base " Pentium® D Processor 920 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB), Microsoft® Windows® XP x64 Edition " .

In order to have this fixed we have three different solutions:

1. If you will like to keep the same video card ..

" 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card on the XPS 700 " we will need to upgrade the processor to the "Pentium Processor 930 with Dual Core Technology ( 3.00GHZ, 800FSB" at an extra cost of $458.00 before discounts; we will also need to change the Operating System (at an additional cost when required ).

2. If you will like to keep the original configuration ...

"Pentium® D Processor 920 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB ) ", we will need to downgrade the video card from the "1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card " or to the "Dual 256Mb nVidia Geforce 7900 GS " for less $150.00 , or to upgrade to the "Dual 512Mb nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX " for additional $300.00.

3. If you are not satisfied with either of the above options, you can request the cancellation of the order at no additional cost.

Please advise which one of the following options you will like, by replying to this e-mail. The order will remain on hold for 48 hours, if at that time there is no reply, the order will be automatically cancelled.

Also note that we truly value our relationship and reputation with our customers, and we realize the negative impact to our customers' satisfaction from these types of errors. Please be assured that we are working hard to try and prevent these problems going forward. We are sorry for any inconveniences that our error may have caused.

Thank you for being a DELL customer.

Regards,
ATG Online Team

I ordered a 64-bit, but 7900GS and I still got that illegal configuration e-mail (I wasn't given any options though other than to call the number). Just today though, after I sent my problem to a directed e-mail (actually 2) yesterday, I called and got my order fixed on the second call (I used the number and extension they gave in the illegal config e-mail). The first person was no help at all, so u'll have to just keep calling til u get someone who'll help u out. Good luck!

Btw, be careful to look at the confirmation e-mail to see if they changed any parts. Some SD posts reported this, although mine looked good...except for a negligable $20 out of no where (that's SO not worth the effort though).

Mine went into pre-production today, estimated production is tomorrow. I cancelled the 7950 order and placed another Wednesday morning with dual 7900GTX/2407FPW.

Mine got shot down too (7950 GX2 with x64 XP). They gave the reason as "you placed more than one order using this coupon". I did place an order for an XPS 400 AFTER I had ordered the XPS 700 and received the XPS 400 confirmation immediately. The XPS 700 confirmation never came. Clearly, the coupon use excuse is just a creative way of saying "we can't/are not willing to do that config".

Has anyone canceled their orders for these systems due to the extremely long lead times? I didn't get one with the GX2, so it didn't get canceled by Dell, but it's showing a ship date of 8/23, a month and a half away. They've already charged my credit card though, and I'm kind of peeved that I will be getting two bills for it before it even ships, not to mention the possibility of better deals/better systems (Conroe, etc.) out even before this thing ships. Just curious what others are doing.

I'm keeping mine. The ship date is only an estimate anyways. I got my notebook from them sooner then the orginal ship date.

Are you totally certain it was a charge and not just them checking to see if you had enough available credit line to charge it? A lot of times they will look the same but its not an actual charge (its essentially a hold on your account so you do lose all of that available credit).

If it is an actual charge, then call Dell, as their policy is to not charge until they are shipping your order. You should be able to get something for the hassle.

if you visit the dell forums, the delay is due to the manufacturing process of the XPS700 cases (or PSU, they're blaming it on themselves but are very vague) they promised that production will start this or next week.

people who ordered the XPS 700 back in june when it first came out at full price, still didnt get theirs yet, so after those initial batch, they will get to this deal.

mine is confirmed, it was weird, they downgraded my GX2 to 7900GTX for less $230. i called them up and was given options that wasn't in the "illegal config" email .

go to the dell forums or SD deal talk thread, there's much more info over there

EKKC,

So, they gave you a single 7900GTX? Can you copy and paste what it says in your order detail? I was under the impression mine was the dual 7900GTXs. Here is what my detail says:

"512MB NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX Dual, for Dimension XPS 700"

I purposely ordered dual 7900gtx and mine said exactly "512MB NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX Dual, for Dimension XPS 700" .

For those of you who have kept up with the XPS 700 mess or wondering where your order is.

Well after the big delays they were having, it appears that Dell is going to be offering free upgrade to Core 2 Duo or a Dell gift card. They're supposed to contact everyone who has orders.

Yep. However it will cause them to take longer still to fulfill your order. I've been debating on keeping the order or building myself, and will probably wait to see how long they expect it will push my order back before I decide for sure.

Here's a link.

Also, Dell has said that they aren't going to lock the XPS boards so you will be able to overclock (I'm assuming that it will void your warranty though, so...), which is very nice combined with the C2D now being available.

I got a call yesterday from Dell about upgrading the CPU or a $200 GC. The CPU upgrade would really delay the order. So I just took the GC.

200 GC can get you the cheapest Core2 and then sell the P-D for cheap so i think that may be better off, unless they dont give you the cheapest core2 as the upgrade

this worries me, i gave them my home phone number, but i am never home

With the long lead times, and considering the core 2 duo is arriving as we speak - is this still a good deal?

Does anyone know how difficult it would be to change some of the options on your order? What I'm wondering is if I could upgrade from dual 7900GS's to dual 7900GTX's at the same discounted rate. Has anyone tried to upgrade and received the same rate?
