what planet have you been on? games recently released have started way below that. I haven't paid $50 for a PC game in, well, ever I believe.

Heh just so you guys realize this thing has a suggested price of 59.95, most games have a suggested price of 49.95, so the odds of seeing a 39.95 price within a week or 2 of release is slim to none, I think you'll be waiting at minimum a month and a half for it. Though I may be wrong and weirder things have happened

Fine, maybe ~40$. Big whoop! Games like Far Cry, UT2k4, and Painkiller still cost 40 in many places (although not all)

my point is that the new trend with games is that there is usually a big sale on them the first week they are introduced. so I'm betting my money on waiting until its released and expecting a sale instead of a preorder.

Activision has said numerous times that they are setting this game at a higher price point, so retailers are probably not going to mark this one down. Also, Doom 3 is not "just another game." Love it or hate it, this is the biggest game release in the past 4-5 years, and Activision is aiming at very high sales.

My god man, I can't wait an extra day and shipping time to save $5. Anything could happen in that time. I could get hit by a bus. I could spontaneously combust. Who knows. And I would have died without playing Doom3.

So I got a preorder with ebgames. But I figure it will be on bittorrent way before I get my copy, so here is the question: If I have a preorder is it ok for me to download the game before I recieve my retail copy?

Definitely getting the day of...will be nice to showcase my new AMD64 3200+ Asus combo.
Hoping my GeForce FX5600 256megs will do the trick along with 1gig ram.

There's got to be one store that's selling them for cheaper a week after it releases, check EB, Gamestop, BB and circuit city one of them will sell them for cheaper, this happens to almost every hot games before.

That won't protect you if they feel like getting people for it. Plus you're still uploading while the torrent is open.
