Reason for the price drop is the GTX 285 and 295 are being released.

GTX 285 is expected to sell for $400 when it's released on 1/15. Considering that GTX285 is only about 10% faster than a STOCK GTX280, $200 for an overclocked GTX280 is a great deal. Supposedly the 55nm GTX's use cheaper 10-layer PCB vs 65nm's 14-layer one, if that means anything. The only real advantage of GTX285 is that it consumes less energy under load (181w vs 236w )--so you may save a little on the electric bill.

In 4 one. Now I?m hopping someone find a good deal in a power supply that can handle this. I was ripped off with the Thermaltake 600W that is severly over rated because only have 29A on its +12V rails. I thought that "600W" on a good branded PSU means 600W. I think that?s not the case with Thermaltake.

Apparantly not since there's two cards in that price range. It just doesn't make alot of sense considering the vanilla 260 / 191's MSI cards were going for $200 last week

I just ordered the SSC - I don't need it, don't really want it, but for that price I'll make it work somewhere in my systems (or ebay it for $299)

thinking about stepping up to the 285 if it isn't too much spending money with this one.

I just ordered the GTX 280 SC too! It doesn't show up when you do a search under 'GTX 280'. You actually have to type in the full 'GTX 280 SC'. Price on the SSC is back to $311 now FYI.

Anyway, my order was processed... $191.49 AR - $2.11 live cashback = $189.38 shipped

LOL. Stole it. $10 off $200 coupon wouldn't work on it b/c cust service told me this vid card was on their weekly specials list. Who cares at this price?! Going to keep it and sell my existing card or Ebay this for an easy $100 -- wooooot. Hope it ships!

Two of these are faster and cheaper than a GTX 295...hmmm.

This is crazy; it wasn't long ago that these were selling for so much more. Do you guys think prices will continue to fall? I so badly want to order 2 of these for SLI but if I will be able to pick them up for ~$150 soon then I'll wait.

edit: D'oh, looks like it's back to $317.99 for now. It must have gone back up within the past 10 minutes or so. There's still the SC version at $191 AR though...wonder if it will go up too.

double edit: Ended up snagging 2 of the BFG GTX 280 OC2 cards at $237.99/ea.

in order to step up, you have to buy it from evga with retail price/shipping/tax if applicable, minus what you paid, and minus rebate. If any accessory or box is damaged/missing, evga deducts 15% of the value. Of course you also have to pay for shipping the old card back.

Dang it. I caved and ordered the SSC after it came back in stock. My OCZ 600 GameXstreme should be OK. It has the 6 and 8 pin PCI connections. Anyone here running a 280GTX on the 600 GameXstream?

I bought the same card in Dec. and the Far Cry 2 disc was included inside the box--no need to go to evga.com.

$10 off coupon doesn't work on the SC card. It shows up in cart but when you goto checkout, it's removed. Still a killer deal.

Looks like they really want to clear out the 65nm stock. I didn't really NEED a video card upgrade, but I went in for an SC for $191 shipped AR. I doubt the 55nm version will be under $250 for at least 3 months, and I suppose I could always step up anyway.

It looks like this is going to be on going. I was going to pull the trigger but I'm going to wait for further price drops. GTX 280 isn't that powerful of a card like some people are lead to believe. It does great with older engines but so so with newer engines.

Buy.com is selling EVGA SC at ebay for the same price.
