I'm using an earthwatts 430 with my q6600@3.5. It runs like a champ and quiet as a mouse. Well, at least I can't hear it over my 80mm fans and tuniq on high, but it was also very quiet when I had it in an older system...

Well, I was in the same boat as you, except that I did buy it two days ago before the price drop.

I just did the live chat thingie with a newegg CSR and he refunded me the $17 difference without any hassle. He said it will take a couple of days to clear but I'm much happier now with this purchase (and with newegg service--their prices might be going up but their service remains top-notch).

EDIT: And as a general comment, I have used an EA500 in my main rig for about 8 months now and it's just great. Very quiet (my Palit 9600GT is not loud but it's the loudest thing in there) and highly efficient so I don't pull more power from the wall than absolutely necessary. Which is nice because my rig is on 24/7 Folding.

btw, I've seen a LOT of recent posts by AT'ers who bought something from newegg a day or two before a large price drop. EVERY SINGLE TIME newegg has made it right for them. If it was within a couple of days they simply refunded the difference, if the item was already received by the buyer they give a good discount on the next purchase. Newegg has gotten a lot of (mostly justified) criticism over the past year or so, but one thing that hasn't changed is that their customer service is still outstanding.

Definitely a nicer cooler than the small whiny fan on the XFX version. Not sure about faster though.

the xfx one does not have a 4 pin PWMM fan, and it is supposed to be noisier.


XFX seems to do this for all their cards, they go get 2 pin fans that are louder to save that penny.

I got a XFX Alpha Dog XXX for the same price. It certainly is faster with a 680 core and it is definably very load because the fan only runs at 100%. It idoes run cool and will do 740/1830/1040. The evga may overclock just as well.

Definitely quieter with better fan design. They also use better memory so it's clocked higher there. You should be able to OC the core speed a decent amount too. For a modest gamer like me, this is perfect.
