I actually dropped by today only to find out these were priced at 59.99, basiq being 39.99. Of course I asked a clerk to ring it up and got the same price.

What they did have there was coolermaster 380W for $10AR. I slept on it a bit, but walked away for my inexperience with CM rebates.

Something's a little crooked, I think.
The website said prices good 8/15-8/17...one per household.
I put one in my cart yesterday (8/16) along w/the Maxtor hdd on sale. I go back this morning to checkout & the psu is up to $89.99 & the item description no longer says prices good 8/15-8/17. I call a CS rep & he said the date don't mean anything...that there's a certain amount of psu's available & there's one per household. I try to explain to him that I haven't bought one yet & that it's the 17th & the price was supposed to be good thru this date, but he said "prices are subject to change".

My experience with Fry's, AKA Outpost.com, has been stellar. I recently ordered two sticks of Patriot DDR2, received a bad stick. Called, got a RMA#, shipped the bad stick back. They shipped a new stick same day and reimbursed me for the return shipping.

Out of 6 or 7 Antecs I have owned over the years, all but one have DIED. It's still running, but I think it's a matter of time. My friend has the same story. SL's, TP's, TP2's, Neo's - all garbage.

I just picked up the Cool Master eXtreme 500w instead. It is $39.99 - $30 MIR.

It seems way too cheap to be any good, but the reviews I read were decent and the prices elsewhere were a lot higher.

Newegg: $49.99 ($20 MIR)


Is this thing any good, or am I missing something?

The EarthWatts are made by Seasonic and the Basiqs are made by Fortron. I prefer Seasonic more, so I'd choose that. But you really can't go wrong with either.

I think the Earthwatts are also more efficient, and should be "higher end" FWIW. I'm also of the opinion that you can't go wrong with either for the price, but get the Earthwatts if it is still (or becomes again) available since it is "worth" more.

I think thats the one I meant in my earlier post. What kept me from gettin this one instead was my skepticism over the rebate. I mean, any PSU would have worked fine for my s754 box soon to be turned into a secondary rig.

The Two Antec's I own have been running for over 2 years without a problem. Both true power 380's.

My Antec PSU arrived from Fry's yesterday in a damaged box. I didn't open the box and immediately called Frys and was suprised that Fry's gave me a hard time about a replacement. I couldn't speak to a supervisor and the first customer Service agent hung up on me.
I called back and was fortunate to find a decent, kind and professional rep that made a good effort to help and now I have another Antec on the way.
I've been buying some things from fry's and was really suprised at thier inital "hard ass" tatics with a good customer. Newegg's prices are a bit high sometimes but the peace of mind is worth it.

yeah, but that's the thing... newegg used to be a good deal for just about anything. They still have lots of good deals, but they've changed.
