I've been very pleased with dreamhost for the three years I've hosted various sites with them.

I have dreamhost (got in on their last 777), and I'm pretty happy with them. They've been down a few times, so we're talking like 99.0% ut, instead of 99.999 or some crap like that... but for the money they're really good.

I'm happy with them.

I signed up. Should be a fine place for testing web stuff that on a faster connection than the upload on my dsl.

Now I just need to learn how to use Flash. I want to make a flash intro to my site that has music with a quick slideshow of family, friends, and GF. I'm going for a family related page, as you can tell.

Have you used/tried SwishMax? Easy way to create anything Flash

I finally signed up for a year after struggling to think of a good domain for a few days.

Yeah..I have it installed..although i'm very unfamiliar with Flash. I'm wondering if it's even worth doing to whole site in flash. Would doing the Flash intro and whole site in flash eat up a lot of bandwith?

Please don't do that Flash user interfaces are usually horrific unless you are very good. Most people (like 90% from some research) will usually skip flash intros too.

Thank you very much OP. I have been looking at hosting for a while and this was too good to be true to pass up. That is the thing that I am actually worried about though.

Since I bought it this weekend it's been flawless. I'm really pleased with them and as you can see some of the people above have been with them for a year or longer and they're pleased. I'm pretty sure everything will be fine. They're reviews seem very good as well...

hows about some free ones? Are the free ones good or are you pretty much a guinea pig to them.

That reminds me...did we get the Rossman's blessing on this thread?
PS My personal experience with DreamHost is that their mail servers are very much faster than 1and1 - both pop/imap and webmail.
The single tech support question response took 48 hours. . .

I signed up this past summer and have been fairly pleased.
My Ruby on Rails applications are not always fast and stable, but I believe this has been due to my not setting them up correctly.
When I have requested tech support they have been pretty fast. VERY fast when I complained about an issue I marked urgent.
They listen to what their customers want, the reason Rails was installed.

And of course you get a lot more space for less than other places.

I'm very pleased with them so far. Just signed up and I love it. Finally SSH access and you can't beat the price - free domain, 4.8gb storage and 120gb monthly bandwidth is very good for only $10!!!

The developer says:

EDIT 2: I've been billed twice by them for both attempts for $9.24*2, and I have no domain registered or hosting!! ARRRGGGG :|

Yeah, Under Billing -> Manage Account -> Plans, I now have two plans, which I can't seem to cancel. And I have 0 domains hosted or registered. So the payment went through, as I checked on my credit card account online, and I have absolutely nothing to show for it. I get the feeling this might be reallllly hard to straighten out too...
