I'm not really sure to be honest, I did it through my company. I order a fair amount through Dell for my work, so I just emailed him asking if I could get a personal discount and he called me back saying "of course I'll hook you up." He basically said anytime I wanted to make a personal order he would give me big price breaks.

If you know any Systems Managers or Sys Admins who also work with Dell - worth asking.

------------------------

I wish we would deal with Dell and quit buying HP/Compaq We never get any deals from them.

Monitor shows that it shipped , my first estimate said one to two weeks.. not sure what is going on.. still no tracking number.

Mine has shipped already, should be here tomorrow (yeah, I paid the $40 for overnight shipping).

My total was about $1,119 or so. Not so great price considering it'll be down to $900 sometime pretty soon probably, but oh well. Hope its worth it. If this happens sometime reasonably soon, I'll probably just call Dell and ask if they'll give me the difference with whatever hot price they're running it at.

I'll make sure and update with my impressions and everything. If I don't like it, well guess it'll be going back, but aside from major issues (backlight problems, dead/stuck pixels, etc.) I have a feeling I won't be disappointed. I've had both a 2001 and a 2005, both of which I've liked a lot. I sold the 2001 just recently to a friend, and the 2005 might be going to a co-worker provided the 2405 turns out to be as good as it should be.

THis thing will absolutely have backlighting issues and dead pixels. I guarantee it. You don't undercut the competition by $500 and not lose something.
I will following the threads closely to see what ends up happening. I hope so bad that i"m wrong, b/c then I'd take this monitor. I don't think all of us forum members are unreasonable. We want 1600x1200 functioing pixels since that is what is advertsied on the box, and we want a black screen when it's supposed to be black. Not black and white bright spots.
I was thinking of just getting a 2405 and exchanging it probably and I kid you not, 10 times if not MORE, to get one without a dead pixel and one without backlighting issues. But that just sounds like something that will be dragged out over months, and after the 21 days, they'll probably start sending me refurbs. I've already been trying to buy a 20" panel for a month, and at some point the deal maker in you just gives up and could care less about the price, because all you want is onewithout dead pixels and with normal backlighitng. Backlighting wasn't even an issue on lcd's until the 2005fpw. All we had to worry about were pixels. My wretched experience with the 2005fpw leads me to believe we're headed for round 2 of the backlighting issue on the 2405fpw. I mean, the LG panels are the same as the apple cinema displays, yet they don't have backlighting issues; it must in the assembly process.

puff, I've replied about your issue with dead pixels at least twice and I'd like you to consider that Dell deals in considerably higher volume than Apple (in fact, its laughable to me to use 'high volume' and Apple in the same sentence, but I'll run with this just because...) and when you make that many 20" widescreen LCDs you're bound to have some foked up ones, man... I have said it before and I'll say it again... dead pixel issues are just part of owning an LCD; maybe they shouldn't be, but they are. Backlight issues fall into the same category frankly; some parts of the screen are brighter than others, although I have been unbelievably impressed with my 2005FPW (and any friend or even person that knows me can tell you that I am one anal SOB when it comes ot perfection of my equipment).

On topic though - I have just ordered two of these - I can't wait to see how awesome they're going to be side-by-side.

Not really Mike. Apple has always been a big player in the lcd market.

Huh. Didn't realize Sony stopped making CRT's already. Thus ends the near-perfect 24" GDM-FW900 (other than some refurbished ones you can find on pricegrabber).

Sony stopped making CRTs upwards of a year ago. NEC has apparently stopped or will be soon as well.

To reiterate Apex's point- there's a coupon that makes it $1007 today. Oh, and makes the 2001/5 $486

Too bad Dell won't just refund the $75 from the price or issue a credit to my account. I had to cancel my order and resubmit to get the $75 off.

Quick question.. since this has component input, does that mean I could hook up my PS2 to it, and play games like GT4 in HD (1080i)?

The game and the console would have to support that resolution for you to be able to do that. I'm pretty sure the HD formats the PS2 supports are pretty low, 480 area. I think the X-box can support up to 720p. However the game itself also has to support that resolution and many games do not support HD resolutions. Hopefully the next gen will.

Well, the PS2 and GT4 game do support 1080i. I just don't know if I can run it on the 2405 in that resolution.
It seems like it might.. since 1080i is 1920x1080 and the monitor can do 1920x1200.
