Henny...
Thanks but I got the Aopen version. The serial number on the box (which has since been recycled) is totally different (even format) than the one on the drive. I assume Staples will want the one on the box

The serial number on the outside of the box would be the same as on the one on the drive. The AOpen serial number would be 22 digits mostly numbers with three letters near the end, it would look simular to this sample (123D12345678901234JED1) or (123D12345678901234JEE4)

Granorense...
Actually I just opened one up that I got last night and the serial ends with JEE4, and right below it on the drive is the manufacture's name and this one is made by I/O Magic Corporation. I don't know anything about this drives.
CenDyne sometimes uses rebadged drives with other companies names on them (like the Verbatim/LiteOn drives). It may say made by I/O Magic Corporation but it's a AOpen mfg'd drive that has been rebadged by I/O Magic and sold to CenDyne.

Just got my drive in today, thanks MysticMan1 for the information regarding the update on the verbatim drive.
I was debating on whether to flash it to liteon or not, and now I won't have to.

thanks.
AOpen obviously haven't updated their driver/firmware page. If you go into the FTP page where 1.15 is, you'll find 1.17 sitting there. There is no link from the their website.

Does anyone know if this Cendyne drive is compatible with Windows XP? The only reason I'm even considering a new drive is my old Plextor 8/4/32 seems to have trouble in XP. Any help would be much appreciated, natch.

I would like to hear from all the people who have the Verbatim branded Cendyne 32X burner how loud it is? I have read in different posts that it is louder than the Lite On even though the Verbatim is a rebadged Lite On. Not sure why, but would it be more quiet by turning the Verbatim back to a Lite On?

I've already archived about 60 cds from my music collection using my 32x Verbatim that I have flashed to a Lite-On. I do have some pretty loud case fans, but I haven't heard a peep out of the drive. Seems pretty quiet to me.

If I was getting a FREE 32x CDRW (oh! I did get one), i wouldn't care if it was loud or a who MFG'd the drive. Hey it's FREE.

Has anyone had any success with their rebate? I sent my rebate about a week ago and Staples rebate center has yet to receive my mail. I read on another forum that the zip code provided on the rebate form is actually wrong. Has anyone had any progress with their rebate, using the "supposedly wrong" zip code??

Mine hasn't been posted either. RebateHQ.com is sometime slow updating the infomation.
The wrong zip code thing was on the OfficeMax CenDyne rebate form not Staples.

I know this is off topic, but point me in the right direction please ...

I got in on the deal and got a Lite-on model with Nero/InCD. I installed Nero over my older version(I think it removed the old one actually) in WinXP Pro. When I tried to install InCD, it said XP does not support packetwriting and halted the install. Do I have to get a newer version of InCD or is there a way to use this one? I hate downloading programs since I have a 26.4 dial up connection.

I know XP has its own cd writing software but I have yet to try it on an empty CDRW. I don't remember having any problems reading CDRW's but I don't really have too many.

Thanks

They're very slow at updating their site. I just hope I get my rebate. Have you heard from anyone having problems with the AOpen drive? I can't seem to get any of the burning software working besides Nero. I'm thinking about formatting and/or trying out XP (running Win2k right now).

Yes! WinXP Pro does support packetwriting (I'm run WinXP Pro now) and I have Nero installed. Have you update Nero to the latest version? If you still have old Nero CD remove the copy that came with your drive and reinstall the old version then update it to the latest version.

MysticMan1, first of all Thanks for posting the deal, I know you post alot of great deals and it is appreciated. However, a deal is in the eyes of the beholder. Just look through some of the postings. What is a good deal for some is not a good deal for others. Personally, Free is nice but not the determining factor--- cost vs quality/benefit is for me. I, like alot of people, are looking for good deals on top quality products, not just free stuff. I would rather pay a liitle extra money for something that is top notch vs getting something that is free but not quite as good (I have not heard any comments/complaints on the noise coming from a true Lite-On cdrw). Unfortunately, the OMs around me were out of stock at the beginning of the week and did not get anymore back in and all the Staples around me had Verbatim drives bcause had they had the Lite-Ons, we would not be having this conversation.

I was just at two staples and I found either the VBT321240A or drives with a 12 digit serial and no model number.
Anybody know what the no model number drives are?
And are the Verbatim's rebadged Liteon 32123S or 32125W (overclockable)?

Geeze, that rebate is good for another 6 weeks. If someone finds another good pricematch let us know. I'd like to pick up another one for my "other" computer at a "different" address.

I've got Verbatim manufactured in April. It is 123S. The firmware version is a giveaway - X8S2. According to an earlier post there were only so many 123W manufactured.

If you're trying to pricematch, Staples fine print states that they price match including all IR's and MIR's. Using the Cendyne 32x12x40 drive as an example: Staples price is $79.99 - $50.00 MIR = $29.99. Outpost.com's price is $49.90 + $7.95 overnight shipping - $20.00 MIR = $37.85. Since staples rebate price is lower than outpost.com's rebate price they will refuse to pricematch.

However, if you run across a friendly manager you may be able to get them to bite on the outpost.com price.

Can I pricematch an order I just made? I bought the cendyne for 80 along with a maxtor 80gb hd to use the 50 off 200. But since the price dropped and I already made the order, can I pm this still? Will it work on phone and/or person?

Does anybody have the outpost website saved with it saying its available. Now it says unavailable.

Hmm, interesting. I'm quite new in all this stuff, but Staples policy says:
Available coupons and rebates will be deducted from the Staples price to come up with a net Staples price when calculating the price match. For example, if you buy an item from us for $100, and we offer a $20 rebate, the net price is $80. If the item is available from another company for $80 or more, there will be no price match. Another example would be if you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon the net price is $129. If the item is available from another company for $125, the price match will be for $4.40 (110% of the difference).
Means you have first to apply all coupons you have and only after that you can have a pricematch, so no no "they have it for $30 less, and now add on this $30 off coupon, please". Or they just let you go with the money in your pocket? Or MIR's dont count?
