The serial number on the outside of the box would be the same as on the one on the drive. The AOpen serial number would be 22 digits mostly numbers with three letters near the end, it would look simular to this sample (123D12345678901234JED1) or (123D12345678901234JEE4)

Thanks but I got the Aopen version. The serial number on the box (which has since been recycled) is totally different (even format) than the one on the drive. I assume Staples will want the one on the box

CenDyne sometimes uses rebadged drives with other companies names on them (like the Verbatim/LiteOn drives). It may say made by I/O Magic Corporation but it's a AOpen mfg'd drive that has been rebadged by I/O Magic and sold to CenDyne.Actually I just opened one up that I got last night and the serial ends with JEE4, and right below it on the drive is the manufacture's name and this one is made by I/O Magic Corporation. I don't know anything about this drives.
