Update: I was able to PM two of the Cendyne 32X drives at a local B&M this afternoon using the NH OM preview ad showing the $19.99 net price. One potential problem with those who have hard @ss Staples B&M managers is the free CD Player shown in the OM ad, According to the B&M manager who did the PM for me, Staples can technically deny your PM because they don't carry that item and it is listed as part of the OM promo. As always with any PM YMMV. Thanks mysticman1

Just a little FYI...I got an OM catalog in the mail yesterday. It has a $25 off $100 coupon on the back. I'm thinkin' this not only get's me a free 32x burner, but earns me $5 as well.

Did you also use a Staples coupon, or didn't you want to push your luck? Also are you aware that the rebate period for the $50 staples coupon does start unlit Sunday 7-28?

I was able to use two $10/$40 Staples coupons since I had two different ones and purchased each drive on a seperate receipt. Our local B&M manager is really cool about PMs and coupons. My net for each drive after the OM 110% PM and coupon was...

$79.99 Staples B&M price - $22.00 (OM ad 110% PM) - $10/$40 coupon + $3.12 (NC sales tax Blah! ) = $51.11 - $50 MIR = $1.11

As for the Staples $50 MIR, as posted earlier it started on Monday and is valid through 9/30. The rebate printed out with both my drive purchases. Here is the rebate: Cendyne $50 MIR at Staples.com
Thanks again!

Can a Lite-on be updated to support Mt. Rainier? Or is that only the Mitsumi?

This is a hot deal. Thanks

Here is an update as to my experience with looking for the Lite-On model.
To identify which rebadged drive is in the Cendyne box look at the serials # on the top right label at the back of the box and the model number on the newer boxes.

Lite-on 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012), Model #LTR-32123S or the newer mfg (overclockable) #LTR-32123W.
Verbatim 32x mfg drive have (rebadged Lite-on drives) 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012), Model #VBT321240A

The serial numbers on the box label (of the Lite-On models) are 12 digits in length with no letters as MysticMan1 pointed out in the above quote. The difference in my experience versus what he posted is that there is no model number printed on the box (for the Lite-On).

Now, the Verbatim drives had the model number printed directly above the system requirements section on the box sticker (Model #VBT321240A). The Lite-On drives have no model number listed. I have confirmed this in two stores, and with very nice sales associates, by opening the boxes up and confirming that the 12 digit serial numbered and no model numder labeled boxes are Lite-On models. I have many sitting in front of me right now.

This was printed on a coupon email I received from Staples :

(Share the savings.
Click here to send this email to friends so they can save, too).

It's for $10 off $40 and $15 off $75, Put your own email address in the "Friends" e-mail address box and anything in the "Your" e-mail address box and Staples will send you a email coupon in about five minutes. Since the email coupon is coming from Staples, who want me to send this email coupon to "friends" this should not be in violation of the forum's coupon posting rules. If it is a violation of the rules then the moderator should delete this post.

Here's another one that Staples wants me to send to my friends $10 off $40 and $30 off $150, Click here

I just got I/O magic 24x, thanks to Mystic, for free, may be $2 back after tax . According to CDRInfo, it would only make sense to get one the the newer Lite-Ons (and return I/O magic), since there is not a whole lot of real performance improvement vs. 24x. Is this right? I've seen cendyne 32x in local OM, but did not check the model/manufacture date.

There was a thread posted earlier this week with OfficeMax scans of next weeks deals including a scan of the $9.99 24x deal. FTY, you're posting in the wrong thread.

People have posted that they have received drives with the Model #LTR-32123S on the outside of the box and boxes with no Model # on the outside and a Verbatim drive inside the box, so that's not going to work, nice idea though.

That depends on what company mfg'd the 24x I/O magic drive, if it's a LiteOn mfg'd drive then the differents isn't much, but if it's mfg'd by a crummy company you may want to move up to the 32x LiteOn.

If I bought one of these about a month ago in an older MIR (same drive model), will I be able to take advantage of this too or will I be rejected for the one rebate restriction they have on my older MIR (prolly same restriction on the new one too, didnt look). Bought the other one at Office Max btw.

Anyone had any experience/luck in that way?

Hmmm.......odd, luckily my sales associates let me open the boxes in the store so there was really no guessing at that point. Good luck everyone!

As noted, prices are already adjusted to $59.99 + tax at OfficeMax. $24.27 after rebate. Did not bother with using the Staples $10 off $40 coupon I have. :disgust:

Got two of these Cendyne "32X12X40" and they're model LTR-32123S, serial#21221XXXXXXX & 23020XXXXXXX. Included are Nero 5.5.72 and Verbatim 24X (80min, 700 mB) blank CD-R. No indication outside the box on the model #, just the serial numbers.

To those who are lucky enough to get the LTR-32125W, what are your serial # starting with?

Dam, nobody wants to answer my question!

Do you guys know if these burners can be upgraded to 40x or possibly to 48x?

No one has reported any problems with that, as long as it's a different rebate forms.

Only if you're lucky enough to get the LTR-32125W, it can be upgraded via firmware up to a LTR-48125W, with Mt.Rainier support too.

The LTR-32123S, cannot be upgraded. :disgust:

Check this thread..... Overclocking your Lite-On? Which models could be upgraded?

Anyone lucky enough to get those LTR-32125W, what's the manufacturing date and serial#? I've heard about April 2002 or so, please confirm.

You can only overclock the newer 32x LiteOns with the model that ends with a "W" (LTR-32125 W), the older model (LTR-32123 S) cannot be overclocked at all, and the chances of one of the CenDyne drive from OfficeMax or Staples being a W version are very slim. Trying to flash a S version to a different version could screw up your CenDyne/LiteOn drive. I have only heard one person say their 32x CenDyne was a W version and he didn't say he got it from OfficeMax or Staples.

ARGGH!!! Stupid Staples lady wouldn't PM to Office Max because of the 50 dollar rebate. I guess 15 shipped isn't so bad for this burner, but 2 dollars in my pocket is unbeatable. Did somebody find a way around this?

Buy it in the store, it's easier to PM at the B&M. Also remenber you can try to get one from OffiiceMax,com by phone order too. Also calling again and getting a different CS Rep will some times work. $15 is not a good price to pay.
I also have a deal for a free 24x CDRW posted too.
