Woo-hoo!! #200

Anyway, I'm about to toss one of my burners to a buddy (don't really need THAT many burners!!). I have an AOpen and an OptoRite. Which is better? I'll keep the better one. Since I see no real reviews of the OptoRite, I'm hoping some of you have had a chance to play with the OptoRite. Thx.

I got in on this deal and got my burner for $15 after rebates. The Office max near me wouldnt PM to the staples price since theirs is lower after the instant rebate. But I was able to get a canned air for 5 with a 5 rebate and use the 15 off 75, and the 40 rebate. My drive is a lite on 32123S

Was able to get mine for $9.48 after rebate from Staples. They PM'd down to $69.99 based on Office Max's price, and then also let me use a $15/75 coupon. Haven't recd it yet, so no idea what manuf it is, but for $10 for a 32x burner, I really don't care! It will probably go into one of my resale machines, which will increase it's value by $40 or so....

Someone give me some advice...

Is it easier to get this deal at the Staples B&M or online? The B&M is not all that close so online would be easier but is it harder to get done?

I was planning on getting the 32x cendyne and 2 belkin network cards($20ea). Compusa has the network cards for 10 after instant rebate and staples has them with a $10 MIR. Will they PM this? Also, I thought the PM with outpost was dead but seems like a few are still getting it. Is this just a B&M luck of the draw and online it is no go?

The Office Max here in KY had the 32x drive for 109.00 not 99.00 or 59.00 and the were OOS. I don't see a PM coming from there ...

Any tips for a newbie PM'er

BuMP, I'd also like to know what kind of rebadged drives people were getting from Staples ONLINE? Would it be better to go to B&M and try my luck there???

I just got mine from the local Staples B&M. It is the Lite-On LTR-32123S. They didn't have any of the overclockable ones. But they did pricematch the Officemax 59.95 price, used $10 off of $40 , then $50 rebate, so drive only cost about $3, taxes.
Thanks for the deal.

Well, I actually went to Staple B&M over lunch. There was one a lot closer than I thought

I got them to PM Outpost for the 32x drive and PM CompUSA for the 2 Belkin network cards I bought.

Burner 79.98 - 30.08 = 49.90
NIC 19.98 - 14.99 = 4.99 (they PM CompUSA after rebate price!)
NIC 19.98 - 14.99 = 4.99

I also bought a Dlink wireless notebook card for $10 on clearance..

After adding a 1.98 gel ink pen(I just grabbed something) and using the $15 off 75 purchase, the total was:

60.27 w/ 6% sales tax
After the $50 MIR on the burner and the $20(10ea) for the NIC, I should be at -9.73

I was surprised it went down so well. The CSR's were awesome.

The burner has all numbers in the serial and had lrt or something on the model so I assume this is a Lite-on. THe rebates on the NIC's did not print out but I hope that is OK.

This deal is a no go at Staples.com, your best chance to get it free is in-store. There is a lot of deal info posted at the beginning of this thread for those who need it.

Just an update:

If I were you guys I'd beware the Aopen drives. Mine was nice for the 3 days I used it until this morning when it stopped being able to read blank CD-Rs and even pressed CDs most of the time. I'm gonna have to get a replacement.

Well, I bought the last one at one Staples, and the other I visited didn't have any left. Too bad for me, they didn't let me use the 10 off 40 coupon. The manager said it could not be combined with any other discounts, and the PM was a discount in their eyes.

Oh well, 12 for the drive is ok in my book.

For those people who want to try the Outpost.com price match here the info to do that :

Outpost.com has the Cendyne 32x drive for $49.99 with a $20 MIR, have a Staples store price match a print out the page on Outpost.com with the 32x drive on it. Link to Outpost.com 32x drive page, Staples has a $50 MIR, but fortunetly it doesn't print out until they are finish ringing up a sale.
So it's: Cendyne 32x12x40 $79.99 - $30.08 (100%) Outpost.com PM = $49.90 - $50 MIR = -$0.10. If Staples lets you also use a $10 off $40 Staples printable email coupon then it's = $39.90 - $50 MIR = -$10.10 before taxes.
They may want to add the cost of Outpost.com over night shipping, which starts at $7.95. As always when doing a PM YMMV.
(Take the OfficeMax ad or printout copy a of the ad with you in case the Outpost.com PM doesn't work out)
FYI : I helped a friend do this and he got the PM and the $10 coupon, $43.19 out the door.

Went to staples B&M, picked up the last Cendyne 32x12x40x, price matched office max.
59.98 pm - $10 coupon - $50 MIR = $4.24

Great deal altough i got the Verbatim 321240AL.... I can't get it to burn faster than 24x! WTF? I used to have a 24/10/40 cendyne, (Verbatim drive) that busted a couple of weeks ago.... maybe thats messing it up, or maybe i need 32x media to burn 32x? I should atleast get the option to burn 32x!

Your current Nero version may not recognized your drive as high speed recording device. You may solve your problem by doing the following:
1).Start your Nero application
2).Place blank disc in the drive (You must use a media certified to support your drive?s maximum recording speed. i.e.: you need a 40X media for your LTR-40125S drive)
3).In Nero, click on file -> preference, select Cache tab, then select test all drive speeds. Or simply go to disc copy menu, under the copy tap, check the dirve?s maximum speed. This way, Nero will understand your drives? maximum performance, and allow to choose that speed in the future

(Note: * Nero Ver. 5.5.5.6 or later do NOT support writing speed below 8X. If you have chose ?high speed?option during installation, then your choice will only start from 8X. ** If the above step did NOT solve your problem, then you will need to un-install Nero, remove Nero directly manually from Windows Explorer and reinstall Nero.)

In case anyone didn't catch that: Go to File --> Preferences -- > Cache, and hit the "Test all drive speeds" button. For this to work you MUST have a blank CD-R in your drive that is capable of being recorded at your writer's max speed.

Also CenDyne has posted firmware updates for the Verbatim mfg'd drives here : Link to CenDyne/Verbatim updates Text

Did that, here is the deal... it will only write 32x to media that is rated to 32... i can't write 32x on 24x media.... This is really BS bc i used to write 24x on 16x media all the time.... and my brother can write 40x on 24x media with his cdrw... its very possible and i don't care it i screw up a cd every now and then.

It may be the quality of media that you are using. This is from the 32x LiteOn review at the beginning of this thread, it about how "Smatrt-Burn" work:
(the LTR-32123S drive contains a predefined list of good quality media. When the CD is in that list, the drive burns at a pre-specified speed with pre-defined writing strategy and you have the maximum writing speed. When an unknown disc is inserted the drive will burn it with specified speed, default strategy and running OPC at the same time. Last, when a bad quality disc is inserted, LiteOn 32x will burn at vari-speed in order to produce the maximum quality result.

FYI: Lite-on has something call "SMART-Burn Media Checker for LTR-3212xx ". Useful util for LiteOn LTR-30123S and LTR-30125W users
1: Show what speed your writer will write this media at(which speed smartburn selects for your media).
2: Show the CD-R disc manufacturer, DYE type and CD length. Download it here

You (or anyone else who's can't find the 32x drive in stock) should check to see if your staples store has a computer setup where you can order a item "online" for home delivery and pay for it in the store, that way you can still do the PM and use a coupon.

I tried PM staples on phone with OM & Outpost, they refused it.
It is out of stock in both the staples BM stores in Tulsa, OK.

Officemax does not have this deal here. The have a 24x cd writer for $9.99 AR though.
I will probably wait for another deal like this one.

Anyone here have problems with the AOpen? I got one, flashed it to v. 1.17 then started burning, using justlink. At around 30% finished (on a 650 mb file) it starts having problems (this coincides with an increase in drive speed). The in-drive buffer keeps reducing to 0, causing it to initiate Justlink to prevent a buffer underrun. This happens continually while burning slowing down teh system incredibly, and making the burn last around 6 mins at 32X, after burning 2 CDs it used Jutlink 35 and 42 times respectively. Any suggestions on why this happens? I used it to replace a Yamaha 16X that didn't have a buffer-underrun technology and never had any problems. Is it worth it to replace the IDE cable, that's the only thing I could think of. Should I try to return it to Staples and exchange for another model?

I just got mine from the Milpitas, CA Staples. It was the last one and someone almost got mine but I put it on hold. The Newark, CA Staples was out when I called today. I got the Aopen drive. The manager only PMed down to $69.99 and wouldn't PM the Outpost.com price.

DMA? Background apps? File sharing program running in background sharing file being burnt? Drive set as disconnect in check box next to dma check box? All of these have caused me probs in past.

Officemax does not have this deal here. The have a 24x cd writer for $9.99 AR though.
OfficeMax has three different ads running in different cities at different times, they rotate the ads from city to city so the ad with the CenDyne 32x12x40 for $59.99 AR might be in your city next week or the week after that.
