Just got back from Staples. I got the Verbatim VBT321240A. They wouldn't accept the $10 off $40, said the price match was the instant savings and it said not valid for instant savings. Probably should have not included the fine print page, then he probably would have accepted it. Oh well, $13.59 isnt bad for a burner

I tried to PM online at Staples with Officemax and the CSR said that she couldn`t so looks like a BM deal only unless it works with another CSR but from what she said it looks unlikely YMMV.

The weirdest thing happened to me yesterday at officemax and it "should" have happened to everyone else.

I bought the 40x burner and chair for $49.99 and $39.99 respectively. The burner has a $40 rebate and the chair has a $30. I think the screw up was because both of these items already had a discount applied to them during the week due to their weekly promotion.

For example
The "friends and family" promotion was supposed to take money off of the REGULARLY priced $119.99 40x burner price. Since the item was already a promotional item it rang up at $99.99 and they started taking the money off of the $99.99 price instead of the $119.99 price. This resulted in the VERY cheap prices.

the only problem was that I didn't get a rebate receipt to print out . In essence it is like I got these items w/the rebate already but don't have anything to mail in. I'm afraid to go back and ask for a rebate receipt though, just in case they realize the screw up.

Now all of this may have occured because I originally purchased the items during the week and went back to get the cheaper "friends and family" prices but they had to credit my account in full and re-purchase the items so it should have been the same for all of you too.

Anyone else get in on this steal and did you get a rebate receipt to print out? What to do?

My local OM wouldn't take the $15 off $50 coupon from Office Depot, doh. I ended up with a Verbatim drive it would appear (havn't opened the box yet).

Will OM accept that $15 off $50 coupon over the phone?? Do I just need to fax the coupon or give them a URL to it and they will do it for me? I would really like to get one of these for cheaper than the $24 I paid after tax.

Please LMK! (I'll cross my fingers and hope I get a mitsumi over the phone too ) Stupid OM's by me don't have these out on tables or anything, they're afraid someone is going to walk out the door with a big box or something. an OM I went to further away actually had them on a table so it was good.

Well don't bother trying the OM in Cerritos, CA. They wouldn't accept the OD $15 off $50 or EVEN the Staples $10 off $40 original email I actually got in the mail! Pretty lame when the web store won't follow its own laws it has on it's own site. Didn't feel like arguing with the manager though, so I bought it for $65 and left.

Local Staples don't have any sales flyer this week, asked about whether the drive has rebate, the answer is 'no'.

Then going to OM: my OM won't accept copies or printout of coupons from Staples or OD either. Yeah don't feel like arguing either, or drive 10 miles to another OM. Guess just be happy with a $20~ CDRW after rebate. My drive is #CD3201.

Don't care much for that free crappy CD player either, don't want to take chances with OM rebate.

Bump to the MysticMan!

Walked into a Dayton Ohio Staples with my Sunday paper OfficeMax ad. Manager says I can only PM 57.98 (110%). Gave them my $10/40 coupon and my receipt is 50.86 with 6% tax. Asked them to print the 50 MIR just to make sure it was valid which they did. The rebate is also easily found on their web site.

86 cents after $50 MIR for an AOpen drive! (bunch of #s followed by JED1). It was marked on the outside of the box but I didn't make them sort through them to pick a particular model (they were in a case behind the sales counter).

They had many left.

The OM (Sacramento, CA) I was at had a bunch of the drives, but wouldn't open them for me to check. They also accepted competitor's coupons. I'm going to check a Staples nearby also and see if I can pick up one there.

Thx...just ordered it from OM's website with the item number provided.........Added a stick of Sdram and other little filler....used the $25 off coupon....total after rebate is like $20...for 256MB of ram and a 32X burner....not bad....

The Staples coupons that MysticMan posted are legit. Mine were sent from (one of my e-mail accounts to another) from FTAF@email.staples-deals.com and the local Staples accepted the printout. There is no conspiracy.

I just got back from Staples in Clawson, MI, they had.. alot, left on the shelve. I actually was there 4 times today, first time to scout em out before I could find Office Max ad, 2nd time they told me no rebate, absolutely sure, 3rd time I went back with the rebate printed off web, had them confirm it, picked it up, 4th time to get the reciept they forgot to give me =o.

Didn't go as smoothly as some, I got 100% Pricematch, used a $10 off 40 coupon, so payed about 52.99 - $50, still a sweet deal.

no because they require a fax. they only take in store coupons in store.

I first went to my closest Staples and they had two drives, both with the 12 digit serial numbers, so I didn't get one of those.

I then went to another Staples and they only had one drive left, it had 22 digits so I thought it was the Mitsumi with the 16MB buffer, but it turns out it is the Aopen with 8MB buffer. No big deal because it has buffer underrun protection of course, and definitely not bad considering my price after rebate is $1.71


No note that if it has 22 digits it may not necessarily be a Mitsumi drive.
