Did you get Staples to PM of 32x CenDyne on-line? If so then you're the first one that I have heard of to be successful at getting the PM done on-line.

Scored on a Lite-on drive!

Pricematch: Outpost.com

$79.98
- $33.90 (110% PM @ $49.90)
- $10 ($10 off $40 coupon)
+ $3.04 (tax)
-----------------------
+ $39.93
- $50.00 (MIR)
-----------------------
- $10.07 (In my pocket if MIR comes thru)

I told the CSR Fry's and Outpost.com are the same company and she just pricematched w/o even calling.

I can't believe I just got a 32x LiteOn burner for 76 cents AR...

How come there are so many good deals on CD-RW drives these days?

Mysticman,

No PM online... Just the 15 off 75 and the $50 rebate = 14.99 + tax - ebates = about 13, 14 dollars.

Thanks a lot Clarkmo, I didn't even think about DMA, usually it turned out when I reformatted I never switched to DMA mode and on my old 16X it never mattered. Also, for some dumb reason you need to REMOVE a jumper in the AOpen (refer to the review or AOpen's manual on their website) in order to use DMA, which is not very smart IMO. Unfortunatly I haven't had time to test it but pretty sure that was teh culprit.

got it at Staples.
PM with outpost.

Final price without rebates $49.40 it is a LITE-ON LTR-32123S.

Now, Could anyone let me know if I need to download any firmware, updates? It has 2MB buffer. Firmware version XS0R.

I connected my cd rom (as slave) and cd rw (master) on the secondary IDE cable. The cable is not long enough to connect the harddrive and cdrom together.

There's a over supply of 40x drives so the prices are being cut to move the excess inventories, which is also causing stores to clear out the older slower 24x & 32x drives, and because some companies (including LIteOn) are increasing their capacity so they can make more CDRW drives, prices will continue to come down.

BTY: I just posted a new deal for a CenDyne 48x12x48 drive for $24.99 AR & coupon. LINK

Has anybody tried this at either Staples B&M or OM in Tulsa, OK? Did it work out OK? I just found out about this Hot Deal and I hope that the local stores still have any in stock.

I can't figure out which model I have. The serial # on the box is 22 digits, and ends with JED1. Also the Drive Model # just says "32x12x48 CD-RW" both on the box and the drive itself...? Since it ends with JED1 you would think it's an AOpen drive. Like I said though the serial # on the box is 22 digits (trust me I checked about 10 times) instead of 23 as it should be - as explained on the first page of this post. Also the buffer states only 2MB on the box, and I thought AOpen was 8mb buffer.

So I got 2 clues for an AOpen (48x read speed, and ends with JED1)
and 2 clues against it being an AOpen (only 22 digits in serial #, and only 2mb buffer).

How else can I determine what drive I have?. I thought I saw a post within this thread that explained how, but now I can't seem to find it. I'm building a system and prolly won't be using it for a while.......maybe I should just throw it in another PC to see what it is (If it's possible...?), and if it works. LOL....this is kinda driving me crazy.

it's aopen...i have the same drive you can o'c it to 40x but ur result my vary...mine..if i burn at 40x...at around 75% completed, the burner slow down to 12x...which is SUX big time coz it took me MORE THAN 4 minutes to burn 1 cd...32x is fine though..took me around 3 minutes and 30 seconds to finish 1 cd...

try to see more info at club.cdfreak.com and search aopen..you'll see it...aopen oc to 40x

Same here.

My serial# 9162D3703421403782JEE4

Drive Model: 32x 12x 48x CD-RW

Think it is an aopen, but can't tell.

Bloodeye & mellondust

You have a AOpen drive, if the last four digits of the serial number are three letters and a number and the read speed is 48x it's a AOpen drive. It's the only 32x CenDyne drive that reads at 48x.

Also the 8MB buffer shows up after you update to the latest AOpen firmware.

Thanks for the info MysticMan......I had a feeling it was an AOpen, but just wasn't sure.

@alfalfa79 - Looks like it's not really worth it to OC it to 40x. I might just sell this drive to
someone else and make some more money, and get MysticMan1's next deal on the 48x12x48
CenDyne CD-RW.

BTW: I hope someone can cook a good deal on Staples "Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM HD $69.99AR"
which they will be selling next week. I'm not sure what the retail price is, but maybe there's
a PM out there somewhere to be found......at least there should be a coupon. I'd like to get
2 of these HD's.

If they are out of stock use the in store computer setup to order on-line for home delivery and pay for your order in-store and so you can do the PM and use the coupon.

I found several at my local Staples B&M. There was a problem, though. The Staples CSR refused to pricematch to Office Max unless Office Max had them in stock. Office Max is sold out.

I tried calling Staples to order on-line and they refused to pricematch Office Max's proce. They said with their rebate, the final proce was at or below cost.

I waited too long. Oh well.

looks like Staples is tring to stiff me out of $50 for the Cendyne CDRW drive rebate !!

Got a rejection card saying I didn't supply the serial number, I have copies of everything, and the serial number is clearly, in large numbers written on the rebate form. You would think they would use valid excuses not to honor the rebate - not one that is so easy to proof.

I used US postal return receipt, so can prove they recived the paper work. Wonder if they are having cash flow problems like alot of big companies now ?

anyone have the FAX number for the Staples rebate center ?

This isn't a "hot deal" if the company clearly tries to fraud you out of the rebate - guess most people give up - but not us Anandtech wonks

:disgust:

Is anyone else experiencing problems erasing CD-RW CDs using their AOpen 32x? Not only does CDRWin act up and not burn for me but all other software acts funny except Nero. :disgust:

They want you to cut the serial number "off" the box and send it in with the UPC.
Staples rebate center 1-877-266-6483, not a fax number.
