No! OfficeMax has three different ads running in different cities at different times, they rotate the ads from city to city, the ad with the 59.99 32x drive is gone and replaced by the ad with the 48x drive for $49.99 AR. You can still use the Outpost.com's ad for $49.99 to try for a PM on the 32x CenDyne.

:disgust:

dxpaap: I got that same rejection from Staples: No serial. Fortunately, I made a copy of the paperwork before sending, which CLEARLY has my serial number written in large print. They're just trying to jack us around. .. Which is odd, since I've had really perfect luck with Staples rebates in the past.

Does anyone know how the pricematch policy works at staples because there's not officemax near me. So will they still pricematch it?

ITM, well thks to MysticMan (old wise one) - I realized after reading the rebate form again it requires original UPC AND SERIAL NUMBER BARCODE. In the past its always been just original UPC and hand written serial number.

Man, does one need to keep on top of this !

Well pardon for my previous rant & rave: they got me fair and square !!!!!

cheers

I think I disagree, or at least, think the rebate form is flawed if they intended on getting me to cut out the S/N on the box.

I am reading the (copy I made of the) rebate form I got from staplesrebate.com, and the only mention it makes of Serial Number is "Original S/N #", which to me means, write down the SN on the rebate form. Conversely, it asks you to "tape receipt here," which implies you indeed need to attach something (in this case a receipt) to the rebate form. Had they wanted me to cut out the S/N and attach it, it should also have a bullet point saying "tape S/N here", no?

Any way you cut it, it's pretty f'ing bogus they denied the rebate. I am resubmitting.

The rebate form I got clearly states they want the actual s/n. Its the barcode right next to the upc. I just gave them the entire side of the box....they can do whatever they want with it.

the rebate form I have (from cashregister reciept) has a blank to write the serial number on the form, thus leading one to "jump to the conclusion" that it was good enought.

I agree that the degree that they make you follow the "rebate maze" is extreme - guess more people are returning rebates, so they have to weed out all but the most persistant shops to make their profit margin.

The rebate gimmic is lossing its marketing draw (at least for me), I avoid them now unless its worth the hassle - like $50

well good luck to all others in the same boat - keep us post it you get the rebate after the ressubmission.

Hey, quick follow up .. I checked their website (www.rebateshq.com) and the following was on my tracking number:

"We did not receive the 32X INTERNAL CDRW DRIVE.Serial # NO DEDUP for this product. Please send it to: ATTENTION RESUBMISSIONS, PO BOX 9013 Coppell, TX 75019 or Fax a copy to 972-745-8803"

.. So, I faxed them a copy. I'll blow the .37 stamp and send them the whole thing as well, but figure faxing it will get prompter attention.

Good luck, all.

Oh--so they'll take a faxed copy, but not a handwritten number?

Here's how my deal went:
Staples: $80+tax
Coupon: (-$15 off $75 or more)

Return to store later to PM with Outpost: (-$30+$4 s/h)x110%
Rebate: (-$50+$0.37 stamp)

It's damn convoluted, but I think I'm getting the drive for free after all is said and done. THANKS A BUNCH MysticMan! 1YP

I picked up a Verbatim on Saturday but from what I have read, I would like to have a Lite on because:
**firmware updates
**tech support/warranty should any problem arise
**cool utilities

I know the Verbatims can be changed back to the Lite on but would like to have a true lite-on without the hassle of changing it, i.e. problem with warranty, and sounds like Nero cannot be used if changed back to a Lite on unless you pay for a full version (do not have a full version currently).

Since I do not need to install asap as have a Teac 16X now, any problem with just waiting it out to see if any of my local staples (I have 4 within 40minutes) get more stock in with the LTR model # & just return the Verbatim? I know the LTR model # on the box is no guarantee of a Lite on in the box, but can always return it opened to Staples if it is not (right?). The rebate also does not mention that it has to be postmaked within a certain time limit after purchase, just a month after rebate ends and can use the receipt from my firsy purchase for the rebate and return the Verbatim with the latest receipt since they are in Cendyne's & Staple's stock/mind the same item .

Well, a quick update - called the rebate center - just had me read them the serial number over the phone (no fax or remail) and they entered into the system as a completed rebate submission. I was pleasently surprised - no run around, even an apology.

Now for another 6 week wait !

thanks all for the phone numbers

probably no! no one who bought a 32x CenDyne/LiteOn from OfficeMax or Staples has every say they got the version (LTR-32125W) that's upgradeable to 40x.

I assume you have updated to the latest AOpen firmware?
Yes, I updated my drive to firmware 1.17. I'm having all sorts of problems but reading from another forum, they're doing great with their AOpen drives.

Hi guys,

I got a Verbatim drive using this deal but it's really loud. It drowns out all the other noise on my computer. I'd like to have something less loud, are any of the other drives fairly quiet, especially the Lite-On and the Mitsumi drives?

I'm not sure who y'all deal w/ at staples but noone I've ever dealth with would even think about PMing something @ outpost.com for 50 - 20 MIR = 30 when their price is 80 - 50 MIR = 30. Heck, Staples even gives free shipping. Noone on the phone or in Houston staples would ever give into this deal in my experience. Tell me where the retarded staples CSR and B&M's are!!!

:|I went to a Staples in Phoenix this morning, with the outpost price printed and the this young lady who was the manager didn't want to price match the drive. She said that I had to show howmuch shipping was right on the printout. I told her that there is a Frys a mile a way and that if I went to get it there there wasn't shuch of thing as shipping. She gave me so much cropp that I had to leave that door very dissapointed. Then in the afternoon a went to a different store and they didn't have any of the of this drives there. I got in the deal like 2 months a go, it wasn't as hot is it is now but I just got my $50 rebate yestarday. The drive was an Aopen, so far it is working just fine.

This pisses me off!! I guess I'm going to be screwed out of $50 too since I long since threw away the box with the serial number. I'm looking at the rebate form and it says, "To Reveive Rebate, 1. Print and fillout Form, 2. Include UPC and sales receipts, 3. Mail to ___ ".

They don't ask for the frickin serial number until way down on the form in fine print. This is a very poorly designed rebate form.

Does anyone have the internal email address of their CEO or Merchandising Director. I want to do some serious bitching if they deny me my rebate.

This is just plain bullshit. They need to see the error of their ways. Whenever a rebate form is contradictory, benefit of the doubt should go to the consumer. These guys are B**tards!!

The serial number should also be marked somewhere on the CDRW drive itself, pull it out of the PC and have a look. If it the liteOn mfg'd drive then the serial number will be 12 digit all numbers, then call Staples rebate center at 1-877-266-6483.

Thanks but I got the Aopen version. The serial number on the box (which has since been recycled) is totally different (even format) than the one on the drive. I assume Staples will want the one on the box. Can anyone reply with a valid Cendyne 32X/Aopen box serial number or a posted scan that I can download? (scramble a couple digits if you're concerned about your number).

TIA

Actually I just opened one up that I got last night and the serial ends with JEE4, and right below it on the drive is the manufacture's name and this one is made by I/O Magic Corporation. I don't know anything about this drives. The one I bought a month ago was an Aopen and the serial number was very similar to this one. So I guess that it is really hard to tell what they put in those boxes. Here is the link to I/O Magic Corp. if someone wants to review it. link

this may be a little off topic but not worth starting a new thread.

I purchase an Liteon from one of these deals about 9 months ago, it stopped working two months ago. Since it was under 1 year, call liteon, they said return it to where you purchased it. Unfortunatly, I couldn't find the paper work (which I usually keep). I called back with a little white lie, told them got it over the internet and company went out of business. They gave me an RMA, no problem - three weeks later got a 32x12x40 (much faster the the one I sent in).

Seems like this maybe a way (abit unethical) for those with old model drives (but not older then one year) to get get a free upgrade for the cost of shipping (although this is assuming that they don't actually test the drives before they send a replacement out).

happy hunting
