By "first-time cardmembers with new accounts" do they mean you can't have any other Chase credit cards? Or just not the Freedom card?

This is misleading...or someone correct me.

Do you get the $200 bonus rewards after the first purchase, or do you have to earn the $200 rewards?

Is there a minimum purchase amount?

Based on what I read on other forums, you get points after the first purchase that you can redeem for a $250 check.

Here is a good explanation about this bonus (by aandt1999).

"""
The promotion is that they are going to credit your account with $200 worth of points, 6-8 weeks after first purchase statement period. The standard freedom rule is that with $200 in points you can redeem for $250 check, thus the promotion for $250 after first purchase

I can not guarantee that Chase will not try to find an excuse to deny the bonus... but I have seen, at least, three reports on online forums about receiving $200 bonus rewards from previous $250 promo ( that had the same wording in promo terms).

Grabbed one. I wonder if I should bother hanging on to my MBNA card after this.

Well, I suppose it DOES have a much higher credit limit.

I just browsed the Chase offer that came in the mail. It's 0% till Aug '08, and no annual fee, no fee for transfer bal in response to that mail offer. It all looks pretty good until you check the default APR of 24%. Moreover, it states they have the right, and reserve the right to change the APR ANYTIME, for ANY REASON. It currently states that after August 08, that the Apr would go to "a low 8.99%". In addition, some card companies, not all, reserve the right to up your APR based on your payment history(or future as well), of your other credit cards. CapitolOne is not one of them. Anyone satisfied with their balance transfer offer that they would like to share? Tia.

Wow ,this looks really good: Late Payment fee= $39.00 on balances of $250.00 and over. Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for purchases 18.24% variable. Balance Transfer APR: 18.24% variable. Default APR: Up to 32.24% variable. Overdraft Advance APR: 13.99% fixed (not available in some states). Variable rate information

The following APRs may vary monthly based on the Prime Rate:c

Purchase and Balance Transfer APR: The Prime Rate plus 9.99%.

Cash Advance APR: The Prime Rate plus 15.99%.

Default APR: The Prime Rate plus up to 23.99%.

Haaaahahahhahhhahhhhhaaaaaa!!!! Suckers!! Lol.

Looks pretty normal for Chase. I have 2 other cards that have the same APR. Use credit cards only when you can pay it off every month or when the 0% expires. If you can't, you should not use credit cards.

I got in for the heck of it. I don't really need a CC, but I only have two of them. I might as well get a CC that I'll use for gas only and pay off in full each month. 3% cash back and $250 was enough incentive.

Thanks for the link.

Quick calculation, assuming $1000 line of credit, and you go one dollar overlimit, and can't pay cuz you lost your job.
$49 for overlimit fee
12 late fees = $39*12=$468
12 overdraft fees = $49*12=$468
Interest 23.99% + prime ~6%=31% = $465 *

* considering that the interest is being calculated on an ever increasing balance.

Add it up and at the end of the year you now owe ~$2402. This is what the credit cards are after.

To make it worse I believe that the credit people "profile" college students based upon their parents economic status, knowing that the $4000 they give in "free credit," will, in three years grow to over $15,000. Many students laugh, and walk away.

The credit card companies, I believe laugh also. They wait till near the end of statute of limitations, sue the student, who often does not even show. Then they get a full judgment plus lawyers and other fees. This increases at a statutory rate of interest.

Then they wait. They watch said student, and eventually said student starts having a real job with real earnings. Then they go back and collect.

Credit is great, but they no longer want a pound of flesh, they want all your flesh.

At end of year your 1001.00 debt is now

Simple rule and no calculations are necessary:
1) If you will carry a balance, don't ever, ever get a credit card.
2) If you will never carry a balance, take the free cash and be very happy.

Interest rates, late penalties, etc are meaningless if everyone would follow thate simple rule. I've earned ~$1500 in free cash and/or gift certificates in the 12 years I've been using CCs. Make that ~$1800 by the time I get this free money. In that time, I've paid a grand total of $0.00 in fees and interest. Heck, I don't even use stamps because I pay online.

CC companies can't get a pound of flesh from you if you don't let them.

Redeaming Chase Points
1) Every $1 you spend gets you 1 point.
2) Each point is worth $0.01 cash back.
3) For example, earn 10,000 points and you get $100 cash back.
4) Accumulate 20,000 points and you'll get $200 cash back, but as a bonus they'll give you $50 extra. Total: $250.

5) Open this account now and they'll start you with 20,000 points on your first purchase.
6) See #4.
