edit: looks like this one is dead. So much for "through August 31." Sorry.

IF you have a Discovercard and IF your area has a theater that works with Fandango online sales and IF the link works (it didn't for a lot of people yesterday. I was one but it works for me now) you can prebuy a ticket and get one free. There are threads at FW and SD about this if you have questions that aren't answered on the page. I did it last night - 2 tickets to Dark Knight for $7.75 for me.

http://www.fandango.com/promo/discovercard

Actually $6.75 for matinees. Fandango adds a $1 "convenience" charge. Regular price is $9. There can be a few advantages to living in a smaller city.

like breathable air and affordable rent?

I have a question for you all. I haven't been to a movie theater in a while, oh 3-4 years, maybe more. I went to see Ironman with my girlfriend. I sat down to see this digitized giant pixel screen... (AMC theater in times square) I thought it was just a fluke or something for the commercials/trailers before the show. Then I see the entire movie was like that. While I am not surprised that they have done away with real film, probably for a while now, this crappy LCD projector was awful. The pixels were HUGE and very dim. I was so pissed off that I just paid $28 for the 2 of us to see this when I could have just sat home very close to my own LCD for the same effect.

Is this a common complaint now or did I just get in a bad theater?

I saw Wall-E recently and was blown away by the quality of the projection in a local theater. Yours must have been a bad theater.

Depends on the equipment, I bet they are using a Barco projector on too big of a screen.
Most theater have 2k digital projectors, for a screen that is hughe a 4k would probably be best, however you do loose some color pallet with a 4k

Weird. I'm typing in my Discover cc# and it's saying "Sorry, the promo code is not allowed to be used with this type of credit card. Please enter a Discover credit card. "

I might have to call Discover tomorrow.

No, but I do have a Magic 8 ball!
It would just be part of the difference between a Discover and a Visa or Mastercard. I believe all Discover cards are in the format 6011 xxxx xxxx xxxx. Visas start with a 4, MC with 5. Dunno about American Express.

I looked at the other deal sites and I don't see anyone else having the same problem you have. I hope you can get it cleared up.

OK thanks!

I called Discover but the person I spoke to didn't know about the promo with Fandango. I'll try to contact Fandango. I so much want to see Dark Knight and so does my son tomorrow.

It worked!

I already have a Fandango account and earlier I was using that to buy the tickets when I was getting the error. Then I decided to just purchase the tickets as a "guest", and used an alternate e-mail address for the confirmation e-mail just in case Fandango recognized my Fandango-account's e-mail address and it went through. I think there may be something wrong with my Fandango account and it's just displaying the wrong "not-a-Discover-card" error message.

Thank you so much for this!

Strange, when I go to that link it says:

We're sorry; this promotion expired on 10/31/08. Check Discover.com regularly for more great offers.

It's not 10/31/08 yet?
