This Case doesnt look too bad, and this system (4550) has 6 USB 2.0 Ports, yeeha...def not a modders case though, but you can't build a cheaper system then this, for the Non-Overclocker, once you throw in the OS, labor to assemble and burn in, and Warranty for 1yr.
Also, you may want to upgrade to the Ultra LCD if you can, everyone says these are fantastic but the reg version is kinda ok.

Does anyone know how many Ram slots are in the 4550 case? Like if I opt for the 128MB ram for now, how much can I add later when I get in on the lovely Ram deals. Thanx.

P.S.: Can someone explain to me where the extra 5% off came from. And if you have something that cant be posted here (hint hint), please be so kind as to PM it to be. Thanx.

The integrated NIC is great. Goes in Standby and does not have issues. My last Dell 4400 would not go in standby and wake the NIC back-up.

Oh yea -- If I was to call in for the price adjustment what would the difference be? Not sure how Dell would look at the rebate.

BTW, for anyone who has ordered a Dell before, was your credit card CHARGED when shipped, or earlier in the production process? The reason why I ask is b/c I can't check my order status for some weird reason, but my credit card shows the charge out of preauthorization, and finalized. So now I'm wondering whether they wait to charge your credit card when the item ships, or when they start to build the system. Any idea?

The extra 5% discount is for select Amex Gold cardholders, Amex SAVE 5%.

According to the 4500's tech specs there are 2 RAM slots.

Dell has always charged my cc when the system ships.

Dell states in their FAQ (or help pages) that they charge when the item ships. Before building the system, they first obtain authorization (a hold) for the amount that is to be charged.

I think the 5% discount comes from the share-with-a-colleague-type-of-promo that some lucky people got with their 10% SB coupons

I was unable to stack the Amex Business Card discount with the current offer yesterday... it's either the $100 (still $150?) off or 5% off from Amex coupon... but according to some, the 5% Amex coupon is stackable with the 5% colleague coupon

ch4920: From what I read previously, the system comes with a recovery disc. It's not like OEM version of xp. Also, you can only get support from Dell, not Microsoft. But again, that's just from what I read. I haven't had a personal experience yet. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I've read, you get a Windows XP CD but it will only work on a Dell PC and you can install it without all the pre-installed Dell crap.

Thanx RossMan. I tried the 5% off from AMEX, but it doesnt allow any online promotions, so basically, I can save $40, but then I lose the $100 off, so it's not worth it. If you got it to do both, please share the goodies. =)

Also, does anyone know how good the Harmon Kardon speakers are...should I just keep them for $30 considering HK is a good name.

The HK's are nice speakers...We gave some to my mother for her computer...but you are getting a SB live 5.1 card so 5.1 speakers would be nice, I'd say save the money and try to find a better pair.

Thanx....not to mention that you can buy the same speakers for less than $15 shipped online, so better to ssave $30 at Dell. =)

EDIT: Also, can someone help me understand this. Dell's memory is "128MB DDR SDRAM at 333MHz" If I want to buy DDR Ram to upgrade/replace this, then what kind would I need: PC2100 or PC3500, etc. Thanx again.

EDIT # 2: Sorry RossMan

In the very first 4550 thread, people stated that their previous Dells came with an actual XP OEM CD.
There was some speculation whether you could use it on another PC or not, as some people already with Dells said they could if they wanted to. I guess that means they thought they could, but never tried?
But I do want to put Win2k on the Dell and hopefully be able to install the XP copy that comes with the Dell on another machine.

i try this deal again, somehow the base pirce is now 849, its amazing how many different prices you get for THE SAME COMPUTER. I don't care if you can't build them this cheap, its not worth playing games with dell
