Yes, you can easily sell the 15" LCD for around $200-$250 reducing your final cost to around $399.

I got my first system today (ordered 10/10 received 10/19). Unfortunately this one had a rebate to get it to a cheap price ($770 - $100 MIR + tax), but it has a 2.53GHz CPU and 40GB hard drive plus the TFT. Now I have 3 more on the way...

i jumped on last weeks deal because i thought it was a local minimum point.
this deal is even better.

btw - does anyone know the deal for returning computers to dell.
will i find out there was some small print that says if i return i am liable for
the original shipping that was given to me free, or something like that.

But you come here to whine about it even when it seems everybody else is tickled - way to go pessimisto - you would have found something to bitch about it anyway so you saved yourself some trouble...

Quick question: If I sell my current computer that came with Office XP, and delete it from that computer before selling, will MS activate it for my new computer? Does anybody have the MS activation phone number? I can't find it for the life of me!!!

Thanks.

Integrated nic is fine, if you put your own in it wouldn't be any better, unless you had a pretty high end 3com or somesuch, and integraded audio is fine for average pc users.

maybe you're right, but on my dell at work (POS 2 year old machine), the onboard NIC sucks.

if you choose Premium Audio, you'll have an option for Turtle Beach Santa Cruz DSP Sound Card, does anybody know if this is the same card that sells for above $70 around?

Installing XP Home right now with the XP home CD from last weeks DELL deal (Identical deal to this weeks). It is formating the drive of a non branded Computer I build right now. I did delete XP from the DELL of course, so I do not violate the license.
Booted with it just as any XP install. Nothing Dell branded in any setup screen. Just the physical CD itself says for dist. with Dell system only. But that does not make a difference anyway. Once you own a OS, or better said a license you can install it on any hardware you want, as long as you install it only once. Same goes for Windows activation. It is perfectly fine to install this version on another pc even if you would have activated XP on a different computer. You just have to reactivate.
As a little side note... the Dell OS preinstall never did ask for any activation of any kind.
I'll post more shortly, once it is through with the install.

Go here, click Customize It under the system to the furthest left which is $459.
I wouldn't recommend that route as currently that gets you the system with the 2.0 GHZ cpu, rather than the 2.4/533.

You can definitely get this system down cheaper, but, if you go below $749 you miss out on the $50 coupon. I've been recommending to people to do the deal as follows:

Dell Dimension 4550 Series Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.40GHz with 533MHz system bus/ 512K L2 Price: $759.00 ( - $150)

Dell Dimension 4550 Series: Pentium® 4 Processor at 2.40GHz with 533MHz system bus/ 512K L2 Cache DA4524 [221-0996]

Giving 256MB ram instead of only 128, but only a 30 gig drive instead of 60, ending up with a $10 higher total ($609 vs $599) but I think the RAM is more important. You can easily get the system for $589 but it is worth $20 or $30 more to get the upgraded video, etc, making it eligible for the $50 savings.

i personally think the below config is better

choose it with integrated sound ($30 less than the live, and well you'll still have sound)

128mb ddr333
p4 2.4b
40gb 7200 rpm (its worth $10 to get this upgrade)
40x cdrw
15" LCD
gf4 ti4200 64mb ($90 upgrade is reasonable, and gets you past $749)

works
mshome
no speakers
1 year warranty

its $639 after the coupons

Hard drive question:
Are all the hard drive sizes offered with the 4550 from the same brand/series? I don't need the extra space, but I'd pay extra for a bigger drive if it had quieter or better performance.

Upgrade to Microsoft® Office XP Small Business w/EducateU is $100 more than Works 2002 (MS Word XP + an integrated suite). That brings it down to $749 and the $50 discount still works. Yeah, go for the 40x12x40 upgrade if you want a burner. It's a better deal than the 16X DVD-ROM.

The Dell Home section has the Lite-On 16X Black DVD-ROM for $36 after 10% off. I ordered one of those yesterday with the 5% extra off code and a Sony DSC-P31 camera for $209 shipped (no tax, free shipping, and using the $25 off $250 code from the last Dell Home catalog I received).

Hey DealSpree,
It's been a while since I've seen anything really all that enticing on this forum.
But this one makes for a great deal. I picked up a truly upgraded system for my
daughter at college for $780.02 with tax. I upgraded to the digital flat panel 15",
the GeForce MX and the 60GB hard drive. 256 MB ram,and sub woofer. I did go with the
2.0 instead of the 2.4 Ghz though. She isn't gaming with it.
Dude, she's gettin' a Dell!
