I went here
and registered my buy.com (Chase) Visa credit card for "Verified by Visa". Chose an ID and password.

I registered on the merchant site (a retailer in Bangkok) http://zest.co.th/www/main/det...=GME0001259&catagory=3

Added the game to my cart and checked out. The fee was 575 baht. Checking "Thailand currency" on Google, I calculated it to be about $18.29.

The default was game CD key only. I left it like that.

Entered my credit card details and checked out. A window opened asking for my Verified by Visa password. I entered that. The order completed and I got an email from zest.

I clicked on "My Order". Under status, it showed that the credit card had been approved but an authorization code was required.

Called the credit card 1-800 number and asked for the authorization number. The girl asked if it was for the $16.&& amount (don't remember the change amount). I confirmed. She gave me the authorization code.

Sent an email to zest giving them the authorization code. Got an email back asking for a scan of the credit card and an ID card. Sent them a scan of the credit card with the number covered except the last 4 digits and a scan of my driver license with the signature, date of birth and the license number covered.

After a few days, received my key from them. Activated on Steam and downloaded the games.

Edit: I don't have time to completely read up on it at the moment, but would this work with a one-time use CC #? Looks like it requires a little work but this is a pretty substantial savings over retail price. I'll definitely have to look at this more closely later.

I just received an email from them asking for a scan of the credit card (showing the last 4 digits) and a scan of an ID card like a driver license!


I scanned my driver license and covered my signature, date of birth and license number in it, changed it to black and white and reduced size.
Sent it in.

..The game is totally worth the full price btw. TF2 has got to be one of the best shooters ever.

This has been on fatwallet for awhile now, its a legit deal, these guys deliver what they promise. I don't know why they go through the extra security steps, but, nobody has reported any problems with it.

saw this on fatwallet last week, tried to order, but heard nothing, so logged onto website, then it said i needed to call credit card company to get authorization number, called cc company, got that, then zest asked to send copy of cc, so cancelled order.

You do not have to send scans, just the auth code is enough

Every e-tailer asks for the auth code when buying stuff. It just seems odd that they'd want a scan instead of having you type it into a box.

What makes the auth code different from the rest of a credit card number is websites are not supposed to store the auth code. They can store the credit card number, but the auth code is suppose to be used to get authorization then immediately discarded. The idea is say if "insert big web retailer name" had a security breach the most somebody could get is everything except the auth code that was never to be stored. Obviously faxing in a physical scan is a lot different than having the credit card processor's website use and discard it - especially if you can't trust the website to properly safeguard and destroy the information after charging your card.

The requirement to send a scan of an ID card is an absolute negative. If the customer is in a rush and forgets to cover the signature or the birth date, this could be really bad!
I have covered those on my scan.

If you have to send a scan of an ID, make sure to cover the signature and date of birth.


I leave my posts in this thread as they are and hope that you make wise decisions while taking full responsibility for such decisions.
