Black floppy drives are difficult to find for cheap.
Here's a thought on all drives: if you ever have difficulty deciding which floppy drive to buy and they're all within a couple of $ of each other, go with Sony.

Bought one recently on Newegg and couldn't help noticing it's waaaay quiter than the Teac drive I bought before that.

I second that. I've used just about every brand of floppy drive out there and Sonys seems to be the quietest and longest lasting. Just my opinion though...

my mitsumi is quiet. It's the quietest one i've ever used.

I killed the NEC floppy in my old compaq. I think it was cuz there was too much dust in there.

I think you and maybe a couple of others will be the only ones to get this deal. I ordered this while it was still free shipping and I've gotten no confirmation email..my credit card has not been charged and no-one will answer the phone there. Not Hot!!!

Alps here, too. Guess you get what you pay for, after all. At least I've had experience with Alps before, and have not had a problem with 'em. Still, I expect vendors to sell what they advertise. Buyextremegear gets no customer loyalty from me, even if this is a good deal.

I ordered 2. Just checked status online and it's shipped today. Based on posts above, I'd expect getting alps too. No big deal for me 'cause I still have a lot of beige floppy drives laying around.

I don't think I saw anyone mention this but they also carry other Mitsumi(?) colored floppy drives. They look like they match the color of the Chenming/Chieftec colored cases (e.g. red, blue, yellow, green, silver.) I can't tell if they are painted by hand or the bezels are manufactured with those colors (dyed?). Anyway, I ordered a blue one to see if it matches my blue Chieftec case. LINKY

Your Mitsumi was back order so warehouse substitute with another comparable
floppy. If the Alps is not feasible for you, have RMA department exchange
to the Mitsumi when back order arrives. We are expecting the shipment at
the end of the month.
