The $330 off ($230 instant + $100 MIR) is given with the laptop, plus there should be a $50 off cupon floating around somewhere. The key thing is to customize the notebook from 512 MB of ram to 256 MB of ram, reducing the price by $150, making the total $854 shipped +tax. I think this is a good deal, but want to post it to make sure before I buy it. This is my first post for a hot deal so don't thread crap if its not that hot. Thanks!

bump, today is the last day. You can get a DVD/CDRW combo for $100 more. Also, check the fat wallet thread for a link to a free MIR USB floppy for this from the manufacturer. Also, the RAM is now 512 for the same price. Some have also reported not being charged for shipping.

Please update the title with the specs of the lappy including the free floppy and the extra 256 megs for free (its been like that for day or so) so more folks will look at this and we can get more feedback. If you need handholding on the coupons check the fat wallet thread.

Why would you reduce the ram from 512 to 256? The ram upgrade is FREE. Yes it adds a $150 increase to the price when you bump to 512 but there is a coupon code for $150 off when you have 512. You can't use the $150 off coupon if you don't bump to 512 so it seems that reducing to 256 has no benefit. The price is the same.

Also, upgrading the battery from 6 cell to 8 cell is well worth the extra $20 IMO.

I tried using the coupon code for free memory upgrade and it didn't work. I suppose the $150.00 is already reflected in the original price and therefore there won't be any further $150.00 reduction in price, no?

[edit] just called staples to verify that the free memory upgrade code is indeed valid. if you can't use it on checkout, call staples with your order number and they'll add it manually.

I can't seem to find any specs on this one. Any info on like the graphics card would be great. Currently looking at the hp site with no avail here.

The graphic card is a S3 Savage4 3d chipset. It uses system memory and you can configure it to use up to 32 MB of memory for video. If you have 512 MB of memory you won't notice the missing 32 megs.

I ordered and total was $974 with better battery and free luggage...(fatwallet.com).

Side note- I configured w/ 256 ram and called about the 512 upgrade code not working. Got transferred and while on hold decided the extra 21 day wait for 256 was not worth it. But heres the kicker....The rep said " well ok thanks, then only $1300 something will be charged to your CC"............

Huh? no $974 plus tax, not 13honey.... i said. After 10 minutes of checking we figured the $230 code wasnt working correctly or something.

So I suggest anyone that ordered call and see what your being charged right away!

Same thing happened to me. It seems the $230 off code only took off $85. I talked to them for a while about it and they said they had no idea what was wrong, that it should be $230 but the computer doesn't register it, and would call me later today for an update after they talk to their supervisors.

I would like to point out to all parties that this machine has a VIA chipset. I was about to buy two of these to replace my HP N5125, but as soon as I read that they have a VIA chipset, I decided to keep looking. Why couldn't HP have used a decent chipset?
