<< guys, i've got a 99 Honda? would the installation be a pain? i've a tape deck not a CD one, factory one? what do u guys think?
reason i am asking is that i want to keep the tape deck, and maybe put this in right below it? you guys think it would be possible? anybody with experience?
>>

-i don't think this is practically possible...unless they make a "car version" of those deck selection switch boxes you see at the electronics stores

<< ok, some more questions guys? i really want to jump on this one(unlke the 100GB from SAMS that i don't know how the HELL i missed...will never repeat that ! i swear!

1) when the player continues from a previous session, does it start from the very beginning or does it continue from the start of the mp3
that was last playing or, from the point it stopped in the mp3 that it was playing?(hope it makes sense)
>>

-yes, it does have "resume" function...ie, it resumes from where it left off in the middle of the song

<< 2) the tuners good(i.e, if i have to get rid of the factory head unit, i want to have good receivers) >>

-yea...catches signals fairly well

<< 3) the tags long enough, and recognizable enough, or is it as bad in terms of ID tags, as the kenwoods that we saw from sears few months ago? >>

-dunno, i can't get it to display id3 tags, but maybe that's because my MP3 cd's aren't recorded in ISO9660 format...btw, in the manual, it recommends that you record in this format

<< i would really appreciate it if somebody could answer some of these questions! thanks >>

-hope that helps

<< Sigh, It must be a lot of pain to install it on my infiniti G20. >>

depends...i put it in my little bro's subaru legacy...and honestly, the toughest part is just getting the dash and stuff off...but, crutchfield has excellent instruction set...and the oem wiring harness really is a helper! i'm no pro so it took me about 2-3 hours from start to finish

or u could pay circuit city 100 to install

So you have to call amex first? and then they'll ask you to fax them the webpage? I remember reading that they need to have the actual date on the webpage itself... or something to that effect... has anyone actually gotten the pricematch? And would anyone recommend me upgrading a Kenwood KDC-MP8017 to this? I need the higher voltage output, and that extra set of outputs for my sub.... but other than that... I'm not sure about the difference in quality...

For whoever was asking about ID3 tags, they work just fine, here's how it usually works ..

If the MP3 thats playing is in a folder, it will first display a folder icon, and then the name of the folder (unfortunately since you're using ISO9660, the folders appear in all CAPS and spaces are replaced by _'s). Then it displays the name of the Album / Artist, then it displays the song name. If the song name is too long, it scrolls all the way through, disappears, and re-appears showing the song name again. It will keep doing this until the song is over. You can optionally turn off scrolling, or tell it to only scroll once.

As far as I've been able to tell, there isn't any cut-offs in regards to the ID3 tags. I've seen some relatively long song titles and they all are displayed. Filenames get axed pretty bad because of the ISO9660 Level 2 support (only 31 characters max) but if all of your MP3s have ID3 tags, the filename is never displayed.

Update: Just burned another MP3 disc. I found that if you burn the disc using ISO9660 Level 2, but use the ASCII Character set instead of the ISO9660 character set, the JVC will read everything just fine. This allows you to use upper and lowercase letters, plus spaces for the naming scheme on your directories and filenames (but you're still limited to only 31 characters per file). BTW- I'm using NERO to burn all my MP3 CDs.

How can you tell if this is compatible with my car Chevy Malibu 2000??? Last time I checked an adapter for my car was more than the CD player.

Hey guys ... I have a 98 Honda CIvic Sedan with a factory installed cassette player. I really want to get the JVC KD-SH99 but not ready to throw away the cassette player just yet.

Does anyone know if it is possible to install the JVC in addition to the existing cassette player ?

Thanks in advance for any info !

loudmouth,

If you goto Crutchfield's web site, they allow you to tell them what car you have and they will show you what players are compatible with your car. Included in the price, Crutchfield gives you a free wiring harness and adapter to fit into your car.

psxjunky,

As far as I'm aware, you can't keep both unless you buy an amplifier which supports multiple inputs. What you can do however is utilize the KD-SH99's line input and plug a portable cassette player into it. That way you can still play your old cassette's while still playing your MP3 CDs ... If thats the reason you want to keep the tape deck.
